However the LRP ration was issued to special forces only, and it came in in 1966, and was the basis for the MRE.

Correct, my uncle served in Vietnam and used to tell me he wished he had MREs in the Nam but all he had was nasty ass c rations.

I don't think they were that old, but they were gross. The only thing that was good, was the tang or whatever.
