Rep. Joe Walsh (R., Ill.) is calling for the U.S. to ax foreign aid to Egypt in light of a recent election that put in power a new Muslim Brotherhood-backed president who said that he is reassessing the country’s peace treaty with Israel and considering increasing ties to Iran.

“The sole purpose for providing Egypt with over $2 billion dollars a year in U.S taxpayer dollars was to maintain the peace treaty with Israel and promote stability in the region,” Walsh said in a statement provided to the Free Beacon. “With the Muslim brotherhood now calling on closer ties to Iran and a redo of the peace treaty with Israel, I see no reason to send one more dollar of U.S aid to Egypt. Every dollar wasted propping up this new government is a dollar wasted that should be going to paying down our debt or providing tax relief to struggling American families.”

Egypt should not be rewarded with taxpayer money for threatening to cut ties with Israel, Walsh said. As Americans struggle in a stagnating economy, the U.S. should only be funding those countries that will uphold U.S. values abroad.

“At a time when the United States is racking up record deficits, and American families are struggling with high taxes and difficult economic times, we need to rethink giving aid to a government who is outwardly hostile to the West and to Israel,” Walsh said. “Aiding a group that is ‘rethinking’ the Camp David Accords and planning to establish ties with Iran blatantly goes against everything our country stands for.”

“With [newly elected president] Mohamed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood squarely in control of Egypt following the recent elections, it is time that the United States thinks about ending our foreign aid to Egypt,” the statement notes. “Since 1979, U.S. aid to Egypt has averaged about $2 billion annually, which was initially established because Israel and Egypt had established a peace treaty”...

How long before he starts calling for war? You've got to wonder about people who shoot from the hip before all the facts are in. What's his real agenda?

Considering they dont intend to abide with the deal with Israel that caused us to give them aid in the first place, why should we provide aid to them?

Blowback will blow back our way on this at some point. Beware of those unintended consequences. Our Government bought & paid for this. Now American Taxpayers will have to pay the price. Both in blood & treasure.

I think you're jumping the gun. While Israel is wary, he promised to honor international agreements. He also has the economy to worry about and military that has preemptively stripped him of the power to declare war. He does want to amend the agreement with Israel to allow more troops into the Sinai, where Hamas and others have carved out fiefdoms. I guess that'd be a quandary for Israel, allowing for Hamas to be reigned in while accepting a greater Egyptian Army presence.

Read once in awhile, instead of being such a war-mongering blowhard.

No, that isn't a foregone conclusion.

Stopping aid to all countries that are not explicitly pro western civilization is what we need to do. If the other countries wish to wage war with us over it, I say we replenish our stockpile of aerial ordinance by expending our old inventory as a means of dissuading them.

The money we spend on foreign aid could be better used to restrict and enhance the security surrounding the shipping of goods to the United States, and closing our borders.

Let them pay for their own shit.

He is right, I don't want any of our money going to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Im all for cutting off aid.
To everyone....

Stop paying for Europe's defense. Get out of NATO and let those countries defend themselves. After all, they are all one big nation now. Lets see how well they fare when they have to support their own defense.

I'm not Warmongering at all. I'm actually doing the exact opposite. I didn't support my Nation funding this farce. And i still don't. I'm merely pointing out the fact there will likely be Blowback on this at some point. American Taxpayers/Citizens will pay for this in blood & treasure. It is what it is.

I can't beleive he said that.

NATO does not pay for Europe's defense, genius - it means we pay for yours.

Good. WE Pull out of it and since WE pay for most of it? Disband ALL of it.

The T -

Absolutely. Go it alone, and stop trying to pressure peace-loving countries into fighting your insane wars.

Why did Brits or Poles or Danes fight and die in Korea, Viet Nam or Iraq?

Which country wanted to fight those wars?

NATO is outdated and very expensive. The EU can afford to protect themselves at this point. Time to ditch NATO.
