Just heard him say that many Republicans are saying privately that they will launch and independent run if Trump is the nominee. Sabato is well respected and usually right.

NOW THAT IS DESPERATE!

I heard GOP were thinking of getting Mitt Romney to run....an obvious choice, considering Mitt Romney was so successful last time he ran for President :rolleyes-41:

Hey maybe even Bob Dole might throw his hat in the ring again :rolleyes-41:

That shows you that the Democrat and Republican party are one and the same. They want an Establishment approved president regardless of "party" affiliation.

Not stupid at all. Their goal wouldn't be to get Romney elected. It would be to split the vote to make sure Trump wasn't elected. The GOP would rather help the Democrats than to chance allowing Trump to win.

It's a matter of putting the good of the country before the good of the party. The GOP hasn't done that in a long time, and I wondered if there was a point where they might do it again. That point is trump.

Are they freaking out only because they think he can't win, or because they think he'll leave the party fucked up beyond recognition?

Or both?
.

The latter. Many think Donald is perverting the GOP. They would rather see him lose than win and subvert the party standards. Whatever......

There are no party standards in the Republican Party. The only standard is to fill their pockets. But pocket filling goes for both sides.

The way the Republican Establishment has been flipping the bird to their own rank and file membership the past 6 years, it is almost impossible to imagine how the GOP was already broken, and how Trump could possibly damage that pile of wreckage more.

The party Establishment has been ignoring its own party platform ever since Reagan lost to Ford in 1976. Reaganites managed to make the platform fairly conservative, and so Ford and the Establishment began to use it only as a PR tool and ignored it otherwise.

But technically I suppose there are standards of a sort.

Well, we sure as hell may find out.
