Is Armstrong being strongarmed?

He finally gives up the endless court battles against doping allegations and the USADA takes that as an admission of guilt, stripping him of all 7 of his Tour de France titles. There is some question if they have the authority to do so.

Our best friends daughter went to school with him....... ran with his crowd.

She does not think stripping him is wrong.

Granny thinks its awful, just awful...

Cycling star Armstrong to lose seven Tour titles
Fri, 24 Aug 2012 - Lance Armstrong will be stripped of his seven Tour de France titles, the US Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday after the cycling icon announced he would no longer fight the drug charges that have stained his legacy.
USADA said Armstrong will be barred from cycling for life for using performance-enhancing drugs to win cycling's most prestigious race from 1999-2005, charges that Armstrong has vehemently denied. Armstrong, while maintaining his innocence, announced his decision after a US federal court dismissed his lawsuit against USADA on Monday, paving the way for the agency to continue its case against him. USADA said in June it had evidence that Armstrong used banned substances, including information supplied by former teammates.

Armstrong accused USADA of launching an "unconstitutional witch hunt" against him as he declined to pursue procedures that could take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. "Today I turn the page," Armstrong said in a statement on his website. "I will no longer address the issue, regardless of the circumstances. I will commit myself to the work I began before ever winning a single Tour de France title: serving people and families affected by cancer, especially those in underserved communities."

The 40-year-old said he was growing weary of the fight and the strain it had put on his personal and professional life. "There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say 'enough is enough.' For me, that time is now," he said. "The toll this has taken on my family and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today -- finished with this nonsense."

USADA chief Travis Tygart told AFP that Armstrong would be stripped of all his results dating back to August 1, 1998. In a separate written statement, Tygart called the move a "sad day" for the sporting world and said the "win-at-all-costs culture of sport" needs to change. He also expressed hope that future crackdowns on athletes who use performance-enhancing drugs would create a "level playing field." "It is a sad day for all of us who love sport and our athletic heroes," Tygart said.

USADA to strip Lance Armstrong of 7 Tour titles
24 Aug.`12 — With stunning swiftness, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday night it will strip Lance Armstrong of his unprecedented seven Tour de France titles after he dropped his fight against drug charges that threatened his legacy as one of the greatest cyclists of all time.
Travis Tygart, USADA's chief executive, said Armstrong would also be hit with a lifetime ban on Friday. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, he could lose other awards, event titles and cash earnings while the International Olympic Committee might look at the bronze medal he won in the 2000 Games.

Armstrong, who retired last year, effectively dropped his fight by declining to enter USADA's arbitration process — his last option — because he said he was weary of fighting accusations that have dogged him for years. He has consistently pointed to the hundreds of drug tests he passed as proof of his innocence while piling up Tour titles from 1999 to 2005. "There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, 'Enough is enough.' For me, that time is now," Armstrong said. He called the USADA investigation an "unconstitutional witch hunt." "I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in winning my seven Tours since 1999," he said. "The toll this has taken on my family and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today — finished with this nonsense."

USADA reacted quickly and treated Armstrong's decision as an admission of guilt, hanging the label of drug cheat on an athlete who was a hero to thousands for overcoming life-threatening testicular cancer and for his foundation's support for cancer research. "It is a sad day for all of us who love sport and athletes," Tygart said. "It's a heartbreaking example of win at all costs overtaking the fair and safe option. There's no success in cheating to win."

Tygart said the agency had the power to strip the Tour titles, though Armstrong disputed that. "USADA cannot assert control of a professional international sport and attempt to strip my seven Tour de France titles," he said. "I know who won those seven Tours, my teammates know who won those seven Tours, and everyone I competed against knows who won those seven Tours."

If he is innocent, then he would have fought this for as long as possible. Instead, has admitted defeat.

Very disappointing to know that one of the best athletes in the world is a drug taker. Shame.

Not necessarily.....people can be 'beaten down'......get to the point, they get tired of all the bullshit coming their way....so they try to end the shit somehow.
I don't know if he is guilty as they say or not....it's not for me to judge....I haven't been in his shoes.

Not necessarily so...

... could be he ran out of funds to pursue the case...

... a lot of times what stands in the way of justice...

... is not having the money to pay the lawyers...

... to continue the fight...

... mebbe what we really need...

... instead of universal health care...

... is universal legal care.

I would imagine Lance has plenty of money...even if he doesn't, I wouldn't give up.

He's been fighting these allegations for years. They have never been able to prove shit. Ever. Including the last federal probe which was closed in Feb.

The USADA just is on a publicity whore shpeel and Lance is done answering to these idiots.

Of course, you would like to paint him guilty anyway, even if nothing can be proven.

Guilty until you prove yourself innocent? That's just lovely on your part.

They can't strip his medals. The USADA doesn't have the authority to hijack an international sport. They can go fuck themsleves. Twice.

I'm not a cyclist, but I always admired Armstrong, which I'm sure is more common than not. I really want to believe he's innocent...well actually I really want to know for sure rather than believing anything, but you know what I mean.

It should be noted however that the guy known the world over for never giving up is giving up, which strikes me as odd.

I get what you're saying Bob.......but people get at the end of their rope.
Maybe he figures if people are still to this day questioning him...then he prolly figures they will never be satisfied.
People are assholes......and they can drive the rest of us bat shit crazy~

That's not necessarily true. People can cave for many reasons.

But I think he doped. I've seen several analyses by behavioral specialists - multiple American specialists - who believe he's not being truthful. They might be wrong, I don't know, but I've changed my mind on this.
