Labor Unions

don't worry, the company has buyers ready to take over.

The brand lines have buyers, but they would be manufactured by the new owners, probably using thier employees. Hostess stated the industry was oversaturated, i.e. too much production/workers, not enough demand.

Each of the following nations have a Moody AAA rating accompanied by their % of labor force that is unionized (2011) and their Global Competitiveness Index Ranking for 2011-12.

Australia - 18.0 % of labor unionized, Global Competitive Ranking 20th
Austria - 28.1% unionized (2010), competitive ranking 19th
Canada - 28.8% unionized, competitive ranking 12th
Denmark - 68.8% unionized, competitive ranking 8th
Finland- 70.0% unionized, competitive ranking 4th
France - 7.6% unionized, competitive ranking 18th
Germany- 18.5% unionized, competitive ranking 6th
Luxemburg - 37.3% (2008) unionized, competitive ranking 23rd
Netherlands - 18.2% unionized, competitive ranking 7th
New Zealand - 20.8% unionized, competitive ranking 25th
Norway - 54.6% unionized, competitive ranking 16th
Sweden - 67.7% unionized, competitive ranking 3rd
Switzerland 17.8% (2009) unionized, competitive ranking 1st
United Kingdom - 25.8% unionized, competitive ranking 10th

This list effectively undermines the argument that "unionized labor" reduces a nation's economic competitiveness or drives up government debt!

Do we have any gauge to determine if those Countries have non corrupt productive unions like we used to have, or are their unions comparable to the ones we have now.

Conservatives, never in favor of the little guy. The average Joe who feels like he needs some protection his company in his industry.

The little guy is just another replaceable chump to the conservatives. They prefer the executives over the little guy.

Fuck you douche bags always blaming the labor unions.

as the company was preparing to file for bankruptcy earlier this year, the then CEO of Hostess was awarded a 300 percent raise (from approximately $750,000 to $2,550,000) and at least nine other top executives of the company received massive pay raises. One such executive received a pay increase from $500,000 to $900,000 and another received one taking his salary from $375,000 to $656,256.

Hostess Continues Pattern Of Misinformation

Labor Unions used to be a good thing. Now they are hammers ready to drop on any company that doesn't capitulate to their demands.
The consequence to Hostess is a few union worker's blackmail attempt will be responsible for the loss of 18,000 jobs.
And the cost to us? Million of dollars in unemployment benefits and a loss of Twinkies.
Who are the winners in this hostage situation? Not the union. Not Hostess. Not us. Not common sense.

If I was interviewing someone for a job, the very first question I'd ask is if they belonged to a union. If the answer was yes, the only other question I would ask would be if they needed help finding the door.
Ford giving $9000 bonus checks to all its workers this year. Are you jealous? Bet you didn't get a bonus this year

Jason Vorhees approves of necromancing this thread back from the dead. Everyone else thinks you are an asshole.

Tell that to all the non-union workers who's greedy owners threw them to the curb to ship their jobs to China. The real pieces of shit are the greedy corporate owners like Willard's bain capitol.

It's not about greed. Companies are run for profit as this isn't the Soviet Union. The US has the highest corporate tax rates in the WORLD and more regulations that cost so much in accounting it's mind boggling. So shipping jobs elsewhere is what they did, with the blessing of our government who structured trade deals for that exact purpose. TPP alone would have EXPORTED another 11 million American jobs.

The socialist mindset of the left always forgets that socialism implodes when it doesn't have profit producing capitalists to foot the bill. The unions came when there was no labor law, and now the laws protect them. Unions have not stopped jobs from going overseas. They've long been obsolete.

Did you dredge up this moldy old fossil for any reason?
Yes

Doomsday Prep for the Super-Rich

I did a search for Unions and this thread popped up. Do you think I should have created an entirely new thread to say thank you Ford and thank you Obama. The economy was actually so good last year that blue collar workers got $9K checks. Lets see if wages go up even more for them on Trumps watch. My guess is they won't. Maybe the $10 hr. person will make $12 under Trump but none of the blue collar people will ever see $30 hr under GOP rule.

For line worker makes
$27,387 - $63,696

Lets see Trump bring jobs like this back home. He won't.

I sure did get my bonus this year. And I didn't have to go to work. I sat in my easy chair. Thank you so much, oil and gas company. Keep those bonuses and royalties coming. So, not jealous. just smarter.

Well I'm not talking to rich people like you stupid. You should vote Trump. I'm talking to the blue collar idiots who are crying because they don't make the money they used to make. Join a union.

Those are the jobs we sent to Mexico. Don't see why they can't come back.
