Sure, but Americans don't really care....I know I certainly don't. We tend to look at the man taken in total instead of Kings, Popes, and their petty squabbles.

At least 'ol Louis didn't lose his head over the whole thing and reigned for 70-odd years.

The "theatre of war" then was not only the Palatinate, but also other parts of Germany - and also other parts of the World.
