Kerry 'Flips Off' Vietnam Vet

Former Congressman John Leboutillier reports on a Memorial Day confrontation between Sen. John Kerry and a fellow Vietnam veteran:

Democratic senator - and certain presidential nominee - John F. Kerry gave the middle finger to a Vietnam veteran at the Vietnam Memorial Wall on Memorial Day morning, NewsMax.com has learned.

Ted Sampley, a former Green Beret who served two full tours in Vietnam, spotted Kerry and his Secret Service detail at about 9:00 a.m. Monday morning at the Wall. Sampley walked up to Kerry, extended his hand and said, "Senator, I am Ted Sampley, the head of Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, and I am here to escort you away from the Wall because you do not belong here."

At that point a Secret Service officer told Sampley to back away from Kerry. Sampley moved about 6 feet away and opened his jacket to reveal a HANOI JOHN T-shirt.

Kerry then began talking to a group of schoolchildren. Sampley then showed the T-shirt to the children and said, "Kerry does not belong at the Wall because he betrayed the brave soldiers who fought in Vietnam."

Just then Kerry - in front of the school children, other visitors and Secret Service agents - brazenly 'flashed the bird' at Sampley and then yelled out to everyone, "Sampley is a felon!"

Kerry was referring to an incident 12 years ago when Sampley confronted Sen. John McCain's chief aide, Mark Salter, in a Senate stairwell after McCain repeatedly offended POW families at a Senate POW hearing. Sampley, whose father-in-law at that time was MIA in Laos, followed Salter into the stairwell and, when they emerged, Salter had a bloody lip and a broken nose.

Sampley's group, Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, has garnered huge national attention and has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post and on MSNBC's "Scarborough Country." Tens of thousands of Vietnam vets have registered their opposition to Kerry through Sampley's group.

Clearly Sampley has gotten under Kerry's skin once again.

Someone has to respond to moveon.org

From what i heard he did it in front of children as well and yelled something. Dont remember what. Does it matter?

If this story is from Sampley's testimony, than the credibility is laughable and newsmax really has become the right's moveon.org.

You're only figuring that out now?

Well actually, they seem to be desparate for funding judging from the supplement advertisements on their site, unlike moveon. Also ,in fairness, they gave significant mention to Sampley's disturbing record, and that does color the story. I wouldn't use them as a source for anything anytime soon though.

How can you make something like that up? This guy obviously has an agenda and should have shown some respect to Kerry at the Vet wall because Kerry did serve. Anything he did afterwards aside, he did actually go to Vietnam and therefore is technically a veteran. He had as much to be there as the Sampley guy.

However, this just further shows that Kerry can't rise above criticism. He can't take the heat from one angry critic, how can he handle being president where he deals with thousands of angry critics with bombs strapped to their chests?

This guy more and more looks like he's running for president for the publicity and not to lead this country. Just so he can say he was president and not to actually make this country better.

Irrespective of the news sources crdibility or for that matter the credibility of Sampley, if what Kerry alledgedly did is true, then it is unfathomable.

I mean for him to do this and in front of children no less puts him in the same league with Gore's meltdown the other night. If this is the best that the Deomcratic party has to offer, Bush is a shoe in - not that there was any doubt in my mind - but will galvanize any fence sitters, or moderate southpaws.

I mean, how would Kerry deal with Kim Il? "Well, if you won't disarm, :finger: , so there!" Gee, that inspires allot of confidence!

Good call HGROKIT. Kerry is still a vet, though I would call him the lowest kind of vet for coming back to America and stabbing his fellow veterans in the back. But you're right - if this guy can't handle criticism, how does he expect to make it through the election, let alone be the leader of the free world? Will he flip off Jacques Chirac if they disagree on something?

Perhaps you're just trying not to be disrespectful of veterans. But as a veteran of two tours in RVN I'll tell you that I feel that kerry has no business associating himself with the Viet Nam memorial.

The self-serving bastard was there, once again, exploiting those who served with honor and distinction and failed to make it home. Kerry was using the memorial as a backdrop for his sleazy political campaign. So history repeats itself. Upon his return from Viet Nam, kerry promptly betrayed his former compatriots by spreading bald-faced lies. He did this simply to garner attention for his political aspirations.

In my opinion kerry is a disgrace to the uniform he once wore. His so-called "service" was a travesty designed from the beginning as nothing more than an exercise in self-aggrandizement. The man has no concept of truth, honor, or loyalty.

Well that won't happen. JFK and Chirac will see eye to eye.

Not sure I agree. Assuming that Chirac is standing up, how can kerry see eye to eye with him? I don't think the egg-sucking boot licker can get off his knees long enough.

I see your point.

Im respectful to anyone who served this country sicne i myself did not serve. That doesn't mean those that have served can't criticise him. I just feel its not my place to criticise Kerry on his service. I feel that he is a joke of a person and an arrogant snob from Mass, but he went and served in Vietnam. I'll leave it to the Vets to dismantle his credibilty on his "War Stories".
