Kentucky clerk is a democrat

Marty, have a great time, you and your partner. Even the goofys like you deserve some down time and good time.

You and Starky were discussing it and I posted to it.

Paying decent wages that are liveable wages rather than let the top 1% horde the income. You might be surprised how much one can invest in their local community and their country.
Unless of course you don't care if our country prospers.

Yes it is for another thread but how do you propose to run a country if you do not raise money to take care of the needs of the local governments or states or the country?

What ones are you talking about?

This is a topic for another thread, but sooner or later a lot of municipal and state governments are going to choices, cut pensions, cut services, or raise taxes over and over. Most of them can't cut pensions, and you can only raise taxes so far, so services will have to be cut, and at that point the people currently paying the taxes will decide that maybe pensions being untouchable isn't a good idea.

The issue is sooner or later you can't raise taxes enough to cover the services and the pensions.

Again, an issue for another thread, if you want to discuss it, start a thread on it.

But it's gone from a one-off side discussion to a multi-party discussion. so if it is to continue, another thread.

Just to bad that it doesn't happen to matter if she is a conservative or a progressive.

A defiant county clerk was sent to jail for contempt Thursday after insisting that her "conscience will not allow" her to follow a federal judge's orders to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

"God's moral law conflicts with my job duties," Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis told U.S. District Judge David Bunning. "You can't be separated from something that's in your heart and in your soul."

The judge said she left him with no alternative but to jail her, since fines alone would not change her mind. A federal marshal escorted her, without handcuffs, out of the courtroom.

"Her good faith belief is simply not a viable defense," Bunning said, noting that allowing an individual's beliefs to supersede the court's authority would set a dangerous precedent.

"I myself have genuinely held religious beliefs," the judge said, but "I took an oath."

"Mrs. Davis took an oath," he added. "Oaths mean things."

So is Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman.

Do you have some point you want to make?
Yes I do. My point was that if she had been a republican the headline would've read, Republican Clerk refuses marriage licenses to gays.
