I want someone to justify each of the following, keeping in mind that with all these programs and the other policies surrounding the Indian population, the reservations are still small third-world shitholes (at least all those I've ever seen) outside the grounds of the casinos.
    PART ONE

    Tribal Colleges Education Equity Grants

10.221 Tribal Colleges Education Equity Grants

If we're going to have grants, why not just offer them to the most qualified students of any race or sex attending any accredited school for a qualifying degree?

    Tribal Colleges Endowment Program

What's so special about these schools? If schools are going to receive federal funding, why do we not have a single large fund from which schools are granted funding according to their performance, with any additional grants given on a project-by-project basis (eg: grant requests for new computer systems, building repairs, etc)?

Alaska Native Serving and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions Education Grants

10.228 Alaska Native Serving and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions Education Grants

Under-represented students? If we simply reward schools based on performance and ensure that all students have access to quality schools, then what excuse would there be if any demographic tends away from education?

    ???!

Indian Tribes and Tribal Corporation Loans
10.421 Indian Tribes and Tribal Corporation Loans

So we should help them buy land because of the colour of their skin?

Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations

10.567 Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations

Feeding the poor? Isn't that what SNAP is for?

    What, they can't get SNAP?

    11.801 Native American Program

    11.801 Native American Program

Assuming for the sake of argument that business grants are valid in themselves, someone explain to me why the colour of your skin should be a factor

No eligibility restrictions? Then why is an a 'Native American' program and how are 'Native Americans' the benefactors? Must provide to Native Americans? So anyone can apply, but the colour of you skin decides your place in line?

    Part two:

Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting Communities

14.515 Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting Communities

Why are we favouring institutions with racial preferences?

14.519 Tribal Colleges and Universities Program

14.519 Tribal Colleges and Universities Program

Someone justify a program intended only to aid colleges intended for certain races/tribes.

Is there an Aryan Colleges and Universities Program? I doubt there is, nor should there be any such program with any such racial basis.

Indian Community Development Block Grant Program

14.862 Indian Community Development Block Grant Program

Again, the race thing. Why not one single program designed to allot funds to any community which can show it requires funds for development and for programs that will enable the community to become economically viable?

    It's white guilt.

we are made to feel guilty for the actions of people we never knew, or know anyone that knew someone that did something to feel guilty over.

And nothing has been done to any minority to need any specail treatment in this day and age.

100 years ago. Sure, we owed them. But why must my grandkids grandkids keep ponying up the money?

Who among us would give up the whole of the Western hemisphere for the benefits that you so correctly point out are perqs given only to native Americans?

    Are those programs racists?

    Most assurely, they are.

But put those on the balance of value compared with what the native Americans lost and see how the balance tips.

The indians didn't give up anything. It was taken from them, fair and square. Just like we took Texas and parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and Oklahoma.... away from Mexico.

You know what's funny? Hispanics are demographically taking over Texas, AZ, SoCal, NM--lands that as you point out once belonged to Mexico. Genetically, Mexicans are closest to this continent's natives. Karma's a bitch ain't it?
