The Story of Stone Soup

Once upon a time, somewhere in post-war Eastern Europe, there was a great famine in which people jealously hoarded whatever food they could find, hiding it even from their friends and neighbors. One day a wandering soldier came into a village and began asking questions as if he planned to stay for the night.

"There's not a bite to eat in the whole province," he was told. "Better keep moving on."

"Oh, I have everything I need," he said. "in fact, I was thinking of making some stone soup to share with all of you." He pulled an iron cauldron from his wagon, filled it with water, and built a fire under it. Then, with great ceremony, he drew an ordinary-looking stone from a velvet bag and dropped it into the water.

By now, hearing the rumor of food, most of the villagers had come to the square or watched from their windows. As the soldier sniffed the "broth" and licked his lips in anticipation, hunger began to overcome their skepticism.

"ahh," the soldier said to himself rather loudly. I do like a tasty stone soup. Of course, stone soup with cabbage - that's hard to beat."

Soon a villager approached hesitantly, holding a cabbage he'd retrieved from its hiding place, and added it to the pot. "Capital!" cried the soldier. "You know, I once had stone soup with cabbage and a bit of salt beef as well, and it was fit for a king."

The village butcher managed to find some salt beef and so it went through potatoes, onions, carrots, mushrooms, and so on, until there was a delicious meal for all. The villagers offered the soldier a great deal of money for the magic stone, but he refused to sell and traveled on the next day. The moral is that by working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good is achieved.

- At least to this average Joe, author unknown. You're supposed to gather with friends and make a pot on 12/21 each year.

:eusa_think: Tool for predatory Christians, Communist propaganda, or the best parts of the bible in yet ANOTHER stupid story?

Then liberals came along, took the stone away from the soldier, broke it into tiny pieces - many of which were so small they fell into the grass and were lost.... they handed one pebble to each villager, and patted themselves on the back for having been fair... and the villagers starved to death.

If someone did come along and stick a bureaucratic nose into the mix, thereby spoiling the soup, it was not a liberal. Liberals are all about individual initiative and personal responsibility - you can read all about it in ANY history book.

No, if someone came along and spoiled the soup with a stupid bureaucratic redistribution for the Stone, it was most likely some combination of Democrats and Republicans who did it and then successfully blamed liberalism to the uneducated masses due not to their stupidity, but to their lack of education about history.

Good point. I should have clarified.... by 'liberal'.... I mean the idiots who think they're 'liberal'... when, in fact, they are socialist lite.

on top of that, not everyone is as clever as me, and recognizes that the stone does not prevent anyone from starving.

i put this here because people like cally might try to eat the stone and hurt themselves.

If you think,
for ONE moment,

that CG can't take care of herself?

You're a fidgiot.

(they don't smell Fucking Idiot that way,
but I do.)

I often think of that story I heard it when I was young.
It is about leadership and gullibility .
A delicate recipe to be sure.

I hate those IDIOT bastards. Gives guys and gals who ARE all about personal responsibility and individual initiative an undeserved bad name.

:eusa_think: Yes. I'm sure. I don't like the CLEVER bastards who derailed Liberal thinking by hanging the label around the necks of socialists after the uneasy alliance between Democratic Liberals and Socialists that occurred in the 1920's as an answer to the Conservatives fearful support of Fascism in Germany and Italy because of the orderly market place the Fascists offered.

Knowledge rocks.
