Yep. Saddam was elected with 100% of the vote.

Of course, your vote was known to poll watchers and a vote against Saddam was a death sentance. And that gun to your head in the voting booth may have had something to do with the vote count.

Yeah, Saddam was an elected President :bsflag:

Saddam lashed out Tuesday against what he called "agents of Iran and Zionism" and vowed to "crush your heads" after listening to Kurdish witnesses tell of the horrors allegedly committed by his fallen regime.

I had to laugh out loud at the irony of this. I'm reminded of something I read in a "world's dumbest criminals" collection. Seems a robbery victim was on the witness stand, pointing to the defendant, and positively identifying him as the man who had robbed her at gunpoint. Enraged, the defendant jumped up and hollered, "You lying bitch - I should have shot you!" After a few seconds, he seemed to realize what he had done, and added, unconvincingly, "...if I had been the one who was there". The jury took fifteen minutes to convict.

Seriously, what happens when he is aquitted? Is he restored to power? Does he retire to Cuba? I can't figure this one out. If he is aquitted, what do we do then?
