Jon Stewart on the Bush Tax Cuts

Jon Stewart Exposes the Financial Idiocy of Sarah Palin, John Boehner, and Other Republicans

Tonight, a freshly-shaved Jon Stewart talked about the fact that Republicans are simultaneously complaining about the nation's deficit and fighting to extend Bush's tax cuts (which, if ended, would reduce said deficit by 30%). Inside, video of the smackdown.

Video after the jump.

Yea raise taxes on everyone making over $6K a year! Great move! That will help the economy and unemployment.

Word to stupid, the Daily Show is a fake news show. He is a comedian and a damn good one. If you take it seriously, like most liberals do (the prime reason liberal news stations and radio shows do so poorly, is because liberals don't watch the news and rather get their news from the Daily Show and Colbert Report), they your an idiot!

If Republicans are so worried about the deficit monster, why extend the Bush Tax Cuts? Unless they never cared about the deficit in the first place and won't once they get into office this fall. :eusa_think:

I didn't think Keynesians cared about deficits when in the face of economic turmoil????

Because Rs dont care about the deficit and they prove that every time they get elected to high office.

So the Republicans are Keynesians?

Jon Stewart made a humorous but damn truth point about the deficit. This is the deficit:

according to Richard Nixon....

my point is, the Left wants these tax cuts to expire, when they love to rip on Hoover for raising taxes in the face of economic turmoil and applaud Keynes.

Hoover raised taxes not nearly as much as what's being proposed however. I'm sure you know the rough percentages, as do I.

so do you disagree with keynes about cutting taxes in the face of economic turmoil, then?

I love Jon Stewart, he's such a great entertainer! He actually has a lot in common with Democrats too:
Jon tells jokes
Democrat policies are a joke.

Because Rs dont care about the deficit and they prove that every time they get elected to high office.
Because Ds dont care about the deficit and they prove that every time they get elected to high office.

OH...hmmmmm..wow...I see what you did there.

Hilarious..

We shouldn't be raising taxes in this recession, but its pretty hilarious that the Rs are saying we need to cut taxes on one hand and reduce the deficit on the other. Its funnier that some people think this is perfectly consistent.

you dont think they want to cut spending?

Thats the way its done s0n..........but admittedly, it works like a charm when politicians have the balls to cut wasetful entitlement spending:lol:

Well, then why don't they tell us what they are going to cut?

Oh, sure, they'll talk about cutting "waste" and government employees, but that's not serious. Total expenditure of US government operations is $22 billion, which sounds like a lot of money, but that is 0.6% of total government spending, and 1.5% of the deficit. You could fire every single government employee and shut down every government agency and building, and you'd still have 98.5% of the budget deficit remaining. As for waste, they don't ever give any sort of numbers. Its always easy to point to the ubiquitous "waste" but again, they can never give any concrete numbers other than some symbolic Bridge to Nowhere, which again, is a mere rounding error or a rounding error in the budget.

If you really want to cut spending in the country, you have to cut defense, social security, medicare and welfare. If you cut all welfare, you'd still have nearly a trillion dollar deficit. Even if you cut "everything else" there still would be a massive deficit. Yet Republicans don't tell us how much medicare or social security or defense or even welfare they are going to cut.

Cut taxes and reduce spending - including slashing defense budget.

Watch the economy chug back to life.

Watch tax revenues increase.

Don't grow government in response to increased revenues.

Utilize increase to pay down debt.

Welcome Home America...

Love it, to fight Socialism, we must become Communist.
This, according to Newt's logic, at the end of the tape.

You are the perfect example of who the liberal liars are playing to. Let's walk through this one, shall we?

BAAAAD economy and high unemployment.

The Democrat controlled Congress celebrates the election of a Democrat President by going hog wild with OUT OF CONTROL SPENDING, quadrupling the deficit in no time to an all time record high budget deficit. To a level that even the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office warns is UNSUSTAINABLE. That means government is not only spending money it doesn't have, it is spending money the CBO is warning NO ONE will ever have. Which is what happened in Greece when those idiots started rioting in the streets because they can't grasp the fact their government is broke and so are all the people they've been sticking with the bill. That's the problem with socialism -eventually you even run out of everyone else's money too.

Heck, Pelosi just called the House back to pass another bailout (PAYOFF) to government union employees so that states don't have to make the hard choices in addressing their out of control budget problems in what is the typical ploy of the left. You ever look at your state budget? Jammed pack full of BULLSHIT spending -so who do the out-of-control spending Democrats insist must be first in line to be cut from the budget? POLICE, FIREMEN AND TEACHERS. And you probably bought into that bullshit too, didn't you? And again, sticking taxpayers with that bill too. All while insisting its Bush's fault for what occurred in the out of control spending AFTER Bush left office. Sorry, Bush gets "credit" for the deficit he left and Obama and Democrats get all the credit for what it is TODAY.

Total IDIOTS like you insist that if Republicans were actually concerned about the deficit, they would WANT the Bush tax cuts to expire -which removes all doubt about the fact you never took even a basic economics class in your life, just like most liberals have not. So I'll give you a quick run through here.

Allowing the tax cuts to expire is the same thing as a tax hike. Everyone's taxes will go up and for those with children, the deductible will return to just $700 again -that one is going to hurt every family with children in this country. Increasing taxes when the economy is in such bad shape will also hit small businesses hard. Small businesses are taxed at the individual rate which is higher than the corporate rate. And before thinking the corporate rate should be raised you should know we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world -which makes doing business anywhere BUT in the US very attractive to a lot of corporations -and which can, do and will LEAVE when their tax rate is raised. Taking all those jobs with them. So remember most small businesses actually pay a higher tax rate than the huge corporations you liberals spend so much time demonizing as "evil". Raise individual taxes, they will automatically raise them on small businesses and the majority of small businesses pay the highest individual rate. Small businesses are responsible for creating more than 85% of all new jobs. That one is important to remember. Raise income taxes and you raise them on small businesses too. Pretend it is possible to just "soak the rich" and you are actually soaking small businesses, the majority of which fall in that tax bracket. Raise their rates and small businesses not only do NOT hire and create new jobs, but it will result in making more businesses unprofitable and increase the number that fold -which means everyone employed by that small business loses their job.

That means an even higher unemployment rate. A higher unemployment rate means fewer people earning an income. Fewer people earning an income means fewer people who will be paying income taxes. Fewer people paying income taxes means less government revenue -and that means the budget deficit GETS EVEN LARGER, not smaller.

Basic economic lesson 101 -when unemployment rates are up, taxes should go down because that PROVABLY results in businesses hiring MORE people which means more people paying income taxes which INCREASES government revenue. Raising taxes when unemployment rates are already high increases job losses and the unemployment rate goes even higher - because in order to stay in business, small businesses will lay off people in order to find the money to pay their tax bill. And another nice side effect of raising taxes is businesses try to close the gap by raising prices -so not only will fewer people have a job, we will ALL get to pay more for goods and services.

Government does not create wealth -it gets its money by taking some from those who DO create wealth and jobs. The poor do not create jobs -they NEED jobs. So giving a temporary handout to the poor while insisting the wealthy still aren't paying their "fair share" insures they are less likely to get a job and will continue needing a handout. Except that means fewer people paying income taxes and that means less government revenue. That means less money to give as handouts to the poor. This is the REALITY liberals just cannot bring themselves to face -believing with all their might in free lunches and punitive tax rates on the very people who create jobs. Liberals STUPIDLY assume that no matter how high the taxes imposed on those who create wealth and jobs, they will still continue to be just as productive and work just as hard. They provably will not -and this has been proven FOREVER in country after country. And why would they put out that kind of effort for something government confiscates from them?

One thing bozos like YOU should remember -while you liberals keep on trying to whip up class envy and hatred against those who create wealth, they work on average of 70 hours a week. Roughly twice as much as the average person is willing to spend working. The average successful business owner failed at making a success of three other businesses before finally becoming successful. But most small businesses end up failing which says something about the value of those who pick themselves up from repeated failure and come back again and again. THESE are the people the left insists we should all hate and envy for what they have instead of encouraging MORE people to be like them. Conservatives want MORE people to work that hard -but since they are more likely to deal in REALITY they understand people will not do so if there is no benefit in doing so. What appears to be counter-intuitive only appears that way and shouldn't require deep thinking to grasp here. If you want MORE people who create wealth and jobs in this country then inflicting punitive tax rates is counterproductive entirely. Whatever government punishes in the form of higher taxes -it will get LESS OF, not more. As people realize they are gaining no benefit by expending that kind of extra effort -they stop doing so at all because there is no point. When they stop that means the money government had been confiscating from them doesn't exist at all anymore -which means LESS government revenue.

I am not making this up -this is REALITY and the only way to successfully deal with reality is to understand human nature and then exploit that human nature for the good of all. You will NEVER get there by pretending human nature can be driven out of human beings -it cannot and no number of "re-education" camps is ever going to change that fact. THAT is learning to deal with reality and people and human nature as it really exists. The left doesn't deal in reality though, it deals in FEELINGS and want to substitute reality with what they FEEL the way people OUGHT to be instead of the way they really are. But this is why cutting taxes actually increases government revenue and raising taxes during a bad economy will result in less government revenue. Less government revenue means the government's budget deficit will grow larger even FASTER. Which is not a good thing.

Government is NOT the economy, it doesn't create wealth, it isn't the engine that drives our economy either. It is a PARASITE on the economy. It must feed in order to exist at all but the trick is to keep that parasite from draining too much of the life blood from our economy so it doesn't get sick. Our economy is sick right now BECAUSE of what our government has done -not in spite of it. And since Democrats believe the cure to government-induced illness of the economy is even MORE government, it isn't going to get better anytime soon. But MORE government is the ONLY answer the left can ever think of regardless of what the problems is - because they are stupid enough to believe that man's creation is smarter, wiser and better than MAN HIMSELF and therefore able to do ANYTHING better than the individual can possibly do for himself.

Liberals think the highest individual tax rate should be at least 40% and many would not object if it were even higher than that for the wealthy. (When an individual hears "wealthy" they think of a multimillionaire but the left believes an individual who makes 75K is wealthy -and don't forget that. What a liberal politician SAYS is not indicative of who they really believe to be the wealthy -but those they hit with the highest tax rate.) Aside from the fact government taking 40% of what someone earns is grossly IMMORAL, it is devastating to small businesses - most of which operate on a tight profit margin of just 7-10% which is sitting on a razor thin line between success and failure.
