When I was in the Navy, I watched a film of a Zuni rocket on a test stand on the flight deck of the carrier roar to life, with no plane even attached when they fired up all the carriers radars, radios, and other transmitters they would normally be operating on the day in question.

For the record, I think McCain has been mentally compromised for a few years, and I was not a fan. However, I am a fan of truth and those who would use politics to smear his name for something he did not do is what sets me off!

I'm trying to give you a break, rust picker, but I guess the emotional attachment to John McCain is more important than reaching a logical conclusion about the Forestall disaster. As I said you have to concentrate on the obvious before you come to the conclusion that some sort of celestial lightening or a rare incidence of electronic interference or an unidentified electrical anomaly caused the Zuni rocket to ignite. McCain was in the middle of the disaster but Navy investigators apparently never interviewed him. NTSB investigators are the best in the world and they would have laughed at the investigation that went into the Forestall disaster. It's strange that alleged Navy Veterans would care more about McCain's legacy than the genuine Navy heroes who gave their lives trying to save the ship but I guess politics is sometimes stronger than loyalty.

I was a US Navy aviation ordnanceman (AO) from 1969 to 73. When I was in "AOA" school we were shown the Forrestal fire videos and were told the rocket fired because an AO was conducting a stray voltage check on the rocket pods. For some reason his handheld checker didn't detect stray voltage on the aircraft, so when he connected the electrical cable to the launcher, the Zuni fired.

That's what I was told.
