John Bolton 2012 ?

The mustache is his undoing. He's smart, he is a ferocious debater, the 'stash gives me a headache.

"Bolton has been a prominent participant in some neoconservative groups such as the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), and the Committee for Peace and Security in the Gulf (CPSG).

'Nuff said.

Bolton/Palin in 2012. This Democrat would LOVE a ticket like that!

It’s way too early for our side to settle on a candidate. That is what the left would love for us to do. But bringing up names like Bolton’s is a practical exercise to better give them some name exposure. Then the other side and their media will do some of the vetting we need done to find the best from the pack by giving the best an “anal exam.” From that exam whatever is believable will stick. A really superlatively qualified candidate will survive their attempts at character assassination.

On the Neo-Conservatism issue

Of course there are those from all perspectives within the Neo-conservative camp, as there always are at opposite ends of a continuum, so there are many people in the middle who have problems with some of the tenet's extremes. But if the underlying belief is powerful enough they will hold together in the main. To a great extent the smears against neo-conservatives seem to be based in anti-Semitism. That jumps out at ordinary folks, who are not cowed into conformity by hysterical condemnations from the other side.

I am one of those who like Bolton supported Goldwater, I voted for him in 64. Over the years I learned more about Goldwater that wasn’t clear from his campaign and his book “Conscience of a Conservative.” However, even then had he run again, I might’ve voted for him with that fuller knowledge. We rarely get everything we want in our presidents.

Following is a brief definition which includes most of those tenets, and as with all political factions there are disparate elements:

Neo-conservatism is a right-wing political philosophy in the US which supports using American economic and military power to bring liberalism, democracy, and human rights to other countries. Consequently the term is chiefly applicable to certain Americans and their strong supporters. In economics, unlike paleoconservatives and libertarians, neoconservatives are generally comfortable with a welfare state; and, while rhetorically supportive of free markets, they are willing to interfere for overriding social purposes.

It appears to some that Neo-conservatism strongly holds to the beliefs expounded by President Kennedy when in his inaugural speech he said in part: “... Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

We don’t know yet if Bolton’s beliefs encompass all of the facets in this definition; I.E. the bolded part. I, like most conservatives would have reservations about a leaning in that direction, while keeping in mind that a properly administered program like “Social Security” is absolutely essential as a protection for those who aren’t blessed by fate.

I intend to read at least one of his books; they are:
“Surrender is not an Option” (Defending America at the United Nations and Abroad)

“How Barack Obama is Endangering our National Sovereignty”

What began as a whisper campaign months ago is now being openly discussed among conservatives, and that is the possibility that former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton could potentially become ‘a sleeper candidate’ for President in 2012 on the Republican ticket.

Sorry, but you are late to the game...god almighty...I was PRAYING he would consider running in the last election...my dream come true.

A man of character and conviction with an understanding of the modern world.

I would be thrilled if he ran, as he should. I'd shut my business down to volunteer for his campaign, what an honor it would be :clap2: :clap2:

It seems to be unanimous; Both liberals and conservatives want him to be the next repub candidate for president

Indeed. The mustache has to go.

Other than that, he is a rational and thoughtful man who understands the nature of the world and the United States relationships within it.

Bolton’s credentials are stellar. While serving at the U.N. he was a fearless and sometimes controversial crusader for American interests at an institution that has major credibility problems with its overt promotion of extremist Islamic groups and nations.
As a stalwart proponent of liberty, Bolton made it clear that it is not in U.S. interests to support Communists in Cuba, Venezuela, or North Korea, nor the overt push in the EU toward socialism, which has brought the entire continent to the brink of economic collapse.
Instead, along with a few other members of the Bush Administration Bolton emphasized the strategic importance of aligning ourselves with eastern European countries that had suffered under the relentless oppression of Marxism/Communism and had tasted the sweet victory of human freedom with the demise of the Soviet Union.
These nations, such as the Czech Republic, the Ukraine, Poland, and others became allies of the U.S. due to our dogged determination during the Cold War to liberate oppressed persons in Europe from the heavy jackboot to the throat, compliments of the Communists.

William Macy would be great to play him in a movie. Not that a movie about him would be a great idea.

bolton withheld information that ran counter to his goals from secretary of state colin powell on multiple occasions, and from powell's successor condoleezza rice on at least one occasion.[36]

according to a scripps howard news service article, bolton "wanted to say that cuba had a biological weapons capacity and that it was exporting it to other nations. The intelligence analysts seemed to want to limit the assessment to a declaration that cuba 'could' develop such weapons."[38] according to alternet, a progressive/liberal activist news service, bolton attempted to have the chief bioweapons analyst in the state department's bureau of intelligence and research and the cia's national intelligence officer for latin america reassigned. under oath at his senate hearings for confirmation as ambassador, he denied trying to have the men fired, but seven intelligence officials contradicted him.[26] ultimately, "intelligence officials refused to allow bolton to make the harsh criticism of cuba he sought to deliver,"[38] and were able to keep their positions. bolton claims that the issue was procedural rather than related to the content of his speech and that the officers, who did not work under him, behaved unprofessionally.

also on may 11, newsweek reported allegations that the american position at the 7th review conference in may 2005[64] of the nuclear proliferation treaty had been undercut by bolton's "absence without leave" during the nomination fight, quoting anonymous sources "close to the negotiations".[65]

in three episodes of fox news in may and june 2008, bolton suggested that israel might attack iran after us elections in november.

sounds like a neocon to me.

sounds like dick cheney's son!
