Writing to his wife Abigail:

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty; it ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”

Thank you, Weatherman2020
And these words came from Abigail:

"I am more and more convinced that Man is a dangerous creature,
and that power whether vested in many or a few is ever grasping,
and like the grave cries give, give. The great fish swallow up the small,
and he who is most strenuous for the Rights of the people, when
vested with power, is as eager after the prerogatives of Government.
You tell me of degrees of perfection to which Humane Nature is
capable of arriving, and I believe it, but at the same time lament
that our admiration should arise from the scarcity of the instances."

Behind every great man is a great wife.

A few days late, son.

"The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America."

Letter from John Adams to Abigail Adams, 3 July 1776, "Had a Declaration..."

Dear Tehon
So he missed it by TWO DAYS.

With the Juneteenth Celebration, there was a TWO YEAR gap
between the actually Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and
when abolition finally got announced for enforcement in 1865.

In other old news,
* The Constitution was established in 1789, so it's been
230 years and these laws are STILL not fully enforced.
To this day, people and politicians alike act like these
laws are optional, unless a lawsuit is won in court.
We are back to days of Govt RULING to tell people
what the laws are, instead of agreeing to a Constitutional
contract between people and govt, which is debated
to this day as nonexistent as if people have no authority
to enforce these laws, but believe in electing dictators.

* Jesus came to fulfill Mosaic/Judaic laws given in the
Bible over 2000 years ago, and people are still not
getting how this affects them. Some people understand,
while others don't even think these are real, but some
made up religion that does more harm than good.

Tehon compared with how long it takes for people
to get something, I'm just GLAD if we get anywhere AT ALL!

Happy Independence Day
and let's all be thankful for
Freedom of Religion, Thought and Belief,
Freedom of Speech and of the Press, and
the Right to Assemble securely and peacefully
to participate Democratically in Representation
and Petitioning to Redress Grievances by
Due Process for Equal Protections under Law
with Liberty Justice and Peace for All.

May we all learn to exercise, enforce and share
responsibilities for our rights under these laws
in appreciation for all who have sacrificed
to contribute to the opportunities and
resources we have today, in order to achieve the
highest goals and greatest good for humanity.

Well said Emily. Your efforts to communicate and bring people together to solve our common problems don't go unnoticed. Thank you and Happy Independence Day to you.

A. The topic was Adams on the Declaration Of Independence, not when it was written.

B. It was posted on July 3.

I like Franklin's quote when he was trying to coerce reluctant state representatives to join the Union..."we must indeed hang together or most assuredly we will all hang separately".
