Latino group awarded $3.4M to fund health career program

February 26, 2010

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE

The Illinois Dept. of Labor has awarded the National Council of La Raza a $3.4 million award to invest in health services training for high-need Latino communities in Chicago

The money will fund the Carreras en Salud program, which provides low-income, low-skilled Latinos with a structured but flexible career pathway to nursing and health occupations, according to a release from the NCLR.

Carreras en Salud offers integrated services to overcome barriers to employment and career advancement, such as job training, career counseling and assistance in job placement, the release said.

The program represents a workforce parternship betwen NCLR and its Chicago-based affiliates, the Instituto del Progreso Latino, Association House of Chicago and Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, the release said.

Services will be easily accessible, as all three partners are located in Latino communities -- HPVEC and AHC in the Humboldt Park area, and Instituto del Progreso Latino in the Pilsen neighborhood.

NCLR is the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, the release said

February 13, 2010 7:48 AM | No Comments
Illinois is to receive more than $8 million in federal money for job training initiatives.

U.S. Sen. Roland Burris on Friday announced the funding from a Department of Labor grant program. Illinois is to receive two grants, which the senator's office says are meant to provide job training in health care and emerging industries.

One grant for $4.9 million is to go to Governors State University in University Park. Another $3.4 million grant is to go to the National Council of La Raza in Chicago.

Burris says the awards will "ensure that Americans receive first-rate training in health care and other emerging industries that will lead to good paying jobs and security for families across the country."

My son, a recent economic refugee to Seattle from the third world economy of Maine?

He and his fellow refugee (also from Maine) are now working for a Mexican American businessman who has a landscaping business.

Ironic, si?

NJ doesn't want to help illegals get jobs. They want to help them get FREE SHIT!

The Rutgers Immigration Infrastructure Map, a work in progress since last June, will identify and describe each of the 650-plus social-service agencies in New Jersey that support immigrants, and will map them on a website.

By publicizing the agencies’ work, project organizers hope to help immigrants adapt to their new life, and to determine where more services are needed. The map is expected to be made public in June or July. The map will try to identify every single community-based organization in New Jersey that caters to immigrants.

"We want people to be able to find advocacy organizations and to hook up with people doing community organizing or day care,"

Rutgers plans to launch N.J. 'immigration infrastructure map' online | NJ.com

NJ is ranked 8th in the nation for illegal immigrants.

There is no job that Americans won't do, obviously.

If these Latinos are citizens or hold green cards what's wrong with this program?

A Mexican-American is no less an American citizen than you or I are.

Why should any amount of American tax dollars be given exclusively to Latinos? Why should they get help when others don't?

I know!

Checking Craigs list there are dozens of job offers for landscape and painting. Yet the word hasn't gotten out to the Mexicans cuz there are 50 or more of em standing out at the entrance of the local Home Depot.

Now we hafta worry about immigrants from Maine?
