Gen. 19:30-38, NIV:

"(30)Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. (31)One day the older daughter said to the younger, 'Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the earth. (32)Let’s get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.' (33)That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. (34)The next day the older daughter said to the younger, 'Last night I slept with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.' (35)So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. (36)So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father. (37)The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites of today. (38)The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today."

Like all commandments, they can be set aside when life is at stake. Presumedly then, if the continuation of life was in doubt, the prohibition against incest could be set aside. No Jews, no commandments anyway.

Sounds pretty sick to me, no offense meant.

By western modern standards perhaps. Thousands of years ago, incest was common and much more acceptable. Didn't become widely taboo until animal husbandry and science revealed the downside.

An imaginary magic sky fairy had nothing to do with the actions of human beings. Human beings don't take responsibility for their own actions and need to blame the supernatural.

The Universality of Incest

The History of Child Abuse

Incest was not universally condemned. Remains culturally acceptable in Asian cultures as well as Jewish ones (uncle-niece, first cousins.) And let's not forget British as well as other European monarchies.

Is growing support for incestuous unions and reproduction. Some researchers claiming incestuous taboos of the past are redundant now with genetic manipulation able to safeguard against such concerns with reproduction. Since we can get a full genetic workup to see what we might be at risk for (as Angelina Jolie did finding she had a very high chance of developing breast cancer leading her to get a double masectomy,) if two relatives wish to marry and have children, getting such information to see if such a union will likely result in chronic conditions in their offspring is possible.

I'd think since we seem hellbent for leather fiddling around with genetics this is going to become a reality within our lifetimes. Have to remember everything you think (if reading this) is coming from a decidely immature sexual culture (American.) Whereas what the rest of the world thinks about an issue is likely vastly different. So presuming your opinion on a matter is the right one, even when the rest of the world probably disagrees with us, and making our's the law for all in this country, is perhaps wrong. We, America, remain the most ass-backwards nation when it comes to sexual issues. Should keep this in mind. We're more sexually retarded than Muslim countries, that's how messed up we've become.

How does one say "incest is best' and "keep it in the family" in Ancient Hebrew?

Moral of the story is sleep with one eye open.

Yeah, doesn't that piece of the bible continue with them being chastised by heaven for committing an abomination. The continuation of life was not at stake here, only Lot's personal blood line, of course now of day we know that one need not reproduce personally for their bloodline to continue. These were ignorant people and they thought ignorant thoughts and committed ignorant actions and that's all there is too it.

No the narrative does not say anything about the Moabites & the Ammonites being chastised. In the Bible, they are two nations like any other nation.

Really sick to me, no offense to anyone.
