Jett Travolta Dies at age 16

My heart bleeds for the Travolta family.
Kawasaki disease is the greatest cause of aquired degenerative heart disease in the world.
It can also be the cause of learning difficuilties and compulsive disorders
and other things.

As I type this my Grandson is back in Hospital, he was readmitted on New Years eve with a recurrence of his symptoms. The Doctors are rubbing their collective chins and shrugging their shoulders.
Treatment for this disease is limited, if it doesn't work, what next.
Don't blame the Travoltas, you don't know what they have been and are going through.

If they refused medical treatment they deserve to be blamed. While it may be their right to refuse care as a parent no religion should create a situation where you would willingly refuse known treatments that help your child.

What I am saying is this....You don't know that they refused medication for him, so until you do you should shut the fuck up about it.

Now if he were a "religious" freak, like , say a Jehovah Witness, you all would not be claiming his religion had nothing to do with it. Sad indeed, but I suspect Allie is right, these people believe what they do and do not change their belief because a child is sick.

Which by the way, is their right to do. The difference being, of course when God is involved you all demand some one be charged with the death.

If they didn't treat him, they were stupid too.

But my sympathies on their son's death. Very sad. Their lives will never be the same.

I will have your grandson in my thoughts and prayers roomy. I'm sorry he is back in the hospital. I know you feel helpless, not being able to help.

Keep us posted please.

I'm so sorry, Roomy. I hope your grandson comes out ok. What a terrible way to start the year. But I'm sure that everything possible is being done. My thoughts are with you.

So young , so sad.

Im sure they thought they were doing the best for him.

Im sure they loved him.

Im sure he had a very good sixteen years because of their love for him.

I do admitt that I hope religion does not stand in the way of science at any time in our future.

Their pain and loss are real and one little 8 year old girl is trying to grieve for her big brother right now.

I hope the world lets this family grieve in dignity

I picked him and his mam up from the hospital today, he has been allowed home for a few hours. The Doctors have decided he is not have a recuurence of Kawasakis disease but is now suffering from Juvenile rheumatoid Arthritis and are treating him for that.

I don't know what to do or what to think. All I know is that the lad is in pain and looks to us to take it away and we can't.

Sorry about your grandson, Roomy. :(

Here's some good info about this rare and serious disease:

Kawasaki Disease-Topic Overview

What is Kawasaki disease?

Kawasaki disease is an uncommon childhood illness that causes inflammation of the blood vessels. It most commonly affects children ages 18 to 24 months; it is less commonly seen in people older than age 8. It tends to be severe for several days, but then most children return to normal activities. After your child gets better, the doctor will usually watch him or her for heart problems.

The disease is not contagious and occurs most often in the late winter and early spring.

What causes Kawasaki disease?

Although a specific cause has not yet been identified, researchers suspect Kawasaki disease may be related to a virus or bacteria.

How is Kawasaki disease diagnosed?

Kawasaki disease can be difficult to diagnose. Although there is no specific test for Kawasaki disease, a diagnosis can be made if a child has a fever that lasts at least 5 days and also has 4 of the 5 other symptoms listed above. Less often, a diagnosis is made when a child has a fever that has lasted at least 5 days, two other symptoms from the list above, and some damage to the heart (coronary artery disease).
How is it treated?

Treatment for Kawasaki disease may include medicine given through a vein (intravenous, or IV, medicine) called immunoglobulin (IVIG) to reduce inflammation of the blood vessels, aspirin therapy to lower the risk of blood clots, and possibly blood thinners (anticoagulants) to prevent new blood clots.

Is Kawasaki disease serious?

Most children with Kawasaki disease get better and have no long-term effects, even if they do not receive treatment. However, treatment shortens the illness and greatly reduces the chances of having problems from Kawasaki disease.

About 20% of children who are not treated will have problems in the arteries that supply blood to the heart (coronary artery disease). Weakened coronary arteries may get enlarged or can narrow or develop blood clots. In very rare cases, this can lead to a heart attack.

The risk of heart attack is greatest within 1 year after the illness. However, studies in Japan indicate that children who develop coronary artery damage are more prone to having a heart attack as young adults.

Wishes to your Grandson on a speedy recovery.

As far as Travolta, I think we should wait and see. I don't want to jump to conclusions until they get the full story. This is horrible. No one wants to see their children go before they do.

Please don't jump to conclusions. You have no idea what happened. You can only surmize.

What has happened happened and cannot and was not meant to happen any other way.

Until we know all of the details, it is silly to make judgments. If Travolta DID withhold medical treatment that lead to the boy's death, he could be held liable. We don't know that this is the case.

Its kinda strange to me that its the law that americans have to get medical treatment yet there is no free healthcare. I don't go to the Doctor when im sick, I would only go if I had a serious problem, because its expensive.

okay note this: not one family doctor has said anything about jett...about being his attending doctor or about the on going treatment...sure it my be a secret and all...but i would have expected a doctor who treated the boy to speak up..wouldnt you?

Wrong. Scientologists are known for rejecting certain medical treatments because it goes against their religion. Anti-seizure medicines affect the brain, and thus, scientology does not allow it. Pretty much all they allow is treatment for infections (antibiotics and antivirals). Everything else is treated by the giant alien floating in the third dimension, or whatever the fuck those idiots believe.

Absolute fact.

Absolute fact.

his lawyer...note travolta's lawyer...not a family doctor...said that jett was taking an anti seizure drug but it had been removed due to side effects..that jet was having a grand mal around ever 4 hours...

odd he would speak thru a lawyer and not a family doctor

According to the Church of Scientology, people with disabilities like autism are classified as "degraded" and capable of curing themselves by working harder on the church's teachings.

John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston repeatedly denied speculation that their son exhibited autistic symptoms.

Instead, they blamed their son's problems on a bout with Kawasaki syndrome as a toddler. The rare disease is characterized by high fever, skin rash and swelling of the lymph nodes. Left untreated the, illness can cause heart and circulation problems later in life.

Police believe a seizure led to Jett's fatal fall. The teen was found in a bathroom of the family's Bahamas vacation home Friday morning with a broken nose and smashed skull, cops said.

"The Travoltas as Scientologists - and very prominent Scientologists - would never consult a doctor to deal with the treatment of autism," said Rick Ross, a leading authority on the church.

"This child lived out his life without ever being evaluated or treated, in my opinion. The sad thing is, perhaps he could have been helped."

Jett's parents claimed to have treated his Kawasaki symptoms with a Scientology-prescribed course of "detoxification" - a regimen of diet and saunas that the church claims is purifying, but which Kawasaki specialist Dr. Adrianna Tremoulet has never heard of.

"I am not familiar with that therapy," she said yesterday. Standard treatment includes blood transfusions.

All medication - including anti-seizure drugs - are discouraged by the church, which believes drugs stockpile in the body over time and damage it, experts on the church said.

"The failure to give doctor-recommended drugs or medications to Jett might be considered to be a laudable Scientology ethics matter," said Michael Pattinson, a former senior-level church member.

Calls for comment from the church were not returned yesterday.

Initial reports from police that Jett's body lay undiscovered in the bathroom for nearly 10 hours were challenged yesterday by Travolta's attorney, Michael McDermott.
