There is truth to what you say. But that should not discourage us from analyzing the reality of descriptions either. Hitler claimed to oppose socialism and condemned Karl Marx and then implemented almost every Marxist policy that Marx advocated. I think a good historical and political education has to acknowledge that.

The 'progressives' here who want to make Jesus a socialist simply either don't understand what socialism is or don't have a clue what Jesus was about. Socialism forcefully restricts freedoms for the good of the collective. Jesus was far more concerned with the individual's responsibility for his own choices/behavior and attitudes toward others. Socialism is big government power. Jesus is individual responsibility and integrity who never once saw that as government's responsibility.
