I would think Republicans would be thrilled with Jerry Brown. Wasn't the budget shortfall under Ahhnold almost 30 billion? Isn't it now down to about 10 billion?

And look at the things he cuts: Welfare, state workers are taking a 10% pay decrease and Republicans favorite: $750 million from services for the developmentally disabled

Don't Republicans want to end the Special Olympics and other programs to help disabled Americans?

Specifically, the budget plan would cut:

• $1.5 billion from welfare

• $1.7 billion from Medi-Cal

• $500 million each from the UC and CSU systems

• $750 million from services for the developmentally disabled

• And $200 million from the state bureaucracy.

I agree with everything but the developmentally disabled. This would include the mentally ill, who have always got the short end of the stick. THESE are the people that need help, yet the ones who truly need it and deserve it never see a dime of the money.

As far as state parks, Washington now is charging entrance to all parks - 10 bucks a person OR a Discover Pass for 30 bucks a year for the whole family. PLUS the price of camping overnight if you so choose.

And Washington has been under total Democrat rule for over 40 years. So you can't blame OUR fiscal issues on Republicans at all. When they tax each and everything you do, think about or visit, people quit doing the things that are taxed the most, it's that simple. It's like giving your kid an allowance and he knows what that is supposed to cover. Soon he's buying more and more and wants more and more money from you. That's what happening now. There are so many cuts the government could make, things which would not affect any of us, which many of us don't know exist, but as I said the mentally ill have gotten the short of the stick for a very long time.

Obama made many Democrats angry when he supported and signed into law a bill that makes it legal to carry loaded fire arms into national parks. Republicans say he want's to take away their guns. So tired of Republican's ignorance. They just hate the black guy. Their only real issue is race.

What the hell does that have to do with the price of rice? That blaming any disagreement with Obama's policies, etc., on his RACE is really getting old. Do you not like Bush because he is WHITE? Or Palin because she is A WOMAN? Makes about as much sense doesn't it. Besides, Obama is just as much WHITE as he is BLACK - he just got the genetic package to LOOK black. So let's just let him do whatever he wants, because if we don't like it we are racist. Well you know what? I hope to hell he DOES get reelected, with a Republican-nominated congress. like what happened with Clinton. Remember how good the economy was back then? It's the congress that rules things, not the president. Think about it. Clinton got all the credit when it was the Republicans, and hopefully the same will happen with obama. Republicans will get in there and fix things and Obama will get all the credit - but oh well. he NEEDS the praise, we don't.

He went thru ABSOLUTE HELL as mayor of Oakland when he proposed a "military academy" as a solution for boosting ghetto academic acheivement. The LEFT WENT BESERK. Uniforms? Drills? 6 day a week classes? Was accused of collecting potential corpses for the US military.

But as usual, he was right. There was a line out the door on 1st enrollment day. Still has many more applicants than slots and YES -- it's one of the best academic choices in Oakland.

He understands the sensitivity to government waste. Dates rock n roll stars. Works with ideas from all sides. Hard to believe that he actually retains that "progressive edge" that he claims to still have. I'm sure given the opportunity -- he'd spend money on nanny state crap. But he's the hardest working politician I've ever seen.. Gotta respect that..

And his very recent submarining of Parents rights in Compton, and their right to replace/close/sanction non performing schools, in their district, Brown replaced the board with pro teacher district union advocates.....I could go on.

Don't know -- He probably realizes the wreckage that public unions have caused to California. But that damage is balanced by the fact that he wasn't the guy that tripled the number of state workers and wrote their cherry contracts. Califorinia, much as the nation, spends to much and collects too little. California also has the line item veto, so the deficit could have been avoided had the past Gov. exercised fiscal responsibility; he was too busy practicing family values with his maid.

Gov. Brown is exercising fiscal responsibility. The money is not there to fund everything. He attempted to put a minor tax issue on the ballot, not to raise taxes, but to continue to collect taxes which were set to expire. The Republicans refused to "raise taxes".

It's really that simple. The fact is the OP author isn't stupid, he is a partisan hack and a liar.

The first thing that comes to mind with the idea of cutting maintenance and security to parks in a place like california is fire. Fire is a very natural part of the environment there and left unattended, wildfires will be springing up far more regularly. This will result in expenditures in dollars and lives in fighting the fires and expenditures due to property damage that exceed the amount being saved by cutting security and maintenance. Factor that with the loss of tourist money and the savings isn't a savings at all. Unintended consequence.

California is where it is due to its massive, and unsuccessful social spending. That is where a smart govenor would look for wasted money, not in his department of natural resources.

Prison is a service. Has to be paid for. You can't put someone away for life and not expect expense.

The citizens of California voted to constrict the ability of government to raise taxes because their representatives were spending them into the poor house. The State legislature is controlled by Democrats however and they have continued to pile on more and more spending despite having their ability to raise taxes "constricted".

The greenies will assume that state parks will become a natural haven for wildlife while they will become a haven for criminals as the state deteriorates further and further into the 3rd world.

If you read the posts about Obama's policies, they are laughable. Saying he is a "Marxist" or he "pals around with terrorists" or "he was born in Kenya" are NOT policies.

Let me give you an example of real policies.

Paul Ryan wants to end Medicare by replacing it with a voucher program that will hurt the elderly. See? I just pointed out an unpopular policy.

Do you see? That is a "real" policy with a rebuttal that the majority of Americans agree with.

So Republicans say, "We don't his health care plan". Then you ask, "What about it you don't like?" they answer with "Being forced to be part of it". So you use the argument, "People are forced to have car insurance" or "if people use the emergency room at ten to one hundred times the cost, the public has to pay way more". Or better yet, when you ask, "Don't you want to put you kid on your insurance while they go to college, everyone with a kid will say "Yea". So then you ask, "Well, what's the problem".

They will say, "Because Obama is a Marxist". Which we all know is a new code for "foreigner" which is the old code for "black". Republicans think "Marxist, Socialist, communist and fascist" are all the same thing and interchangeable.

Paul Ryan is one of the few politicians in Washington with the guts to propose changes to Medicare. They all know the present system is unsustainable. They all know that if we don't make some serious alterations to Medicare that it won't be there at all for seniors. But nobody wants to suffer a political hit for taking on the problem. So when someone like Ryan actually proposes changes...people like YOU accuse him of wanting to "destroy" Medicare.

People like "you" are the problem, people like "you" keep us from fixing the things that need to be fixed before we crash and burn.
