it is interesting, and scary, to note that the modern study of Thomas Jefferson's relationship with Sally Hemings was being put together during a time when Bill Clinton was having extramarital affairs as he was President of the USA.

the DNA test, ...if there really was one , showed proof that someone from the Jefferson male line was the father of some of Hemming's kids.
the DNA test results were released in 1998, the same year the Clinton /Lewinski scandal hit the media.

the alleged DNA test never disproved the theory that Randolph Jefferson , a man know for partying with slaves, was the father.
it should be noted that 3 of the kids in question received Randolph Jefferson family names

In fact the study of Hemings and Jefferson was going on twenty years and more earlier than 1998.

Fawn M. Brodie's Jefferson: An Intimate Biography, using the Monticello plantation records, placed only Thomas Jefferson as present nine months before the births at the plantation. No other Jefferson or Randolph male neatly fit the puzzle as to "who was daddy" as did Tom. The DNA makes it almost 100% sure that one Hemings child was his and that most likely the others were his children as well.
