Fiat Says Jeep Output May Return to China as Demand Rises
By Craig Trudell - Oct 22, 2012 10:10 AM CT

Fiat SpA (F), majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers’ operations in the region.

Fiat is in “very detailed conversations” with its Chinese partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. (2238), about making Jeeps in the world’s largest auto market, said Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia. Chrysler hasn’t built Jeeps there since before Fiat took control in 2009.

“The volume opportunity for us is very significant,” Manley, who is also president of the Jeep brand, said in an interview at Chrysler’s Auburn Hills, Michigan, headquarters. “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio.”

Who you gonna believe? Obama or your lying eyes???

So what this is saying is that Jeep is going to ramp up production, but that it won't create American jobs. In fact, in stands to reason that Jeep production in the U.S. will be reduced by at least the number of Jeeps they've been exporting to China.

Fiat said it. They are part owners of Jeep and own Chrysler and Dodge. Romney saw that and capitalized on it. I dont get how he is still being considered lying on this, but the goddamn owners said they were moving.. Hmmmm

4 Pinocchios for Mitt Romney’s misleading ad on Chrysler and China

The unspoken message is that American jobs are being sent to China, even though the ad carefully tiptoes around that claim. (The ad, in fact, includes brief text quoting Bloomberg as saying Jeep production was returning to China.)

The Pinocchio Test

This ad shows that we have entered the final, desperate week of the campaign.

The series of statements in the ad individually may be technically correct, but the overall message of the ad is clearly misleading — especially since it appears to have been designed to piggyback off of Romney’s gross misstatement that Chrysler was moving Ohio factory jobs to China.

It is also especially strange that the ad touts Romney’s endorsement by the Detroit News, when the editorial actually backs up Obama’s criticism of Romney’s response to the auto industry crisis.

This is exactly what Romney was talking about when he says China has unfair trading laws.
Romney wants to get them to change their unfair regulations so that Chrysler and others can make all of our products here in American and trade with China and other countries.
The CEO of Chrysler says Chinese regulations makes it very difficult to import foreign vehicles.
They are looking at having to make some of their Jeeps there in China because of this.
Obama wants to keep things the way they are right now.

The Chinese manufacturing will be for the Asian market, and not take any jobs away from North American workers.

Message From Sergio Marchionne Regarding Jeep Production
by Sergio Marchionne

October 30, 2012 11:55 AM Chrysler Group’s production plans for the Jeep® brand have become the focus of public debate.
I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China.

North American production is critical to achieving our goal of selling 800,000 Jeep vehicles by 2014. In fact, U.S. production of our Jeep models has nearly tripled (it is expected to be up 185%) since 2009 in order to keep up with global demand.
