She's still...Around. Though brain-dead, her body is still functioning.

Mom: Hopeful signs seen in teen called brain dead | New Pittsburgh Courier

If she's well and truly dead, then nothing being done to keep her body working allowing for hope and recovery is wrong or causing her harm. But I find it hard to denounce such efforts when someone's body is still working albeit with medical assistance. How the medical industry defines death has frequently changed over time as better technology and methodology came to exist. More sensitive machines able to detect fainter signs of life come into use so giving up all hope is always premature. If her body's working, brain-dead or not, give her a chance at surprising everyone.

To me, this is a choice that has to be made by those closest to the person in this condition. Were I to be in that state, I would hope that they would pull the plug. But that is my own take on life speaking, and those that feel otherwise have every right to make their decisions according to their own guiding principles.

She's still dead. Nothing done to her can possibly cause harm. Her body is not working. The machines are working.

When my sis was taken off life support my mother never fully recovered from the loss. She lived a dead life.

Bodies are just biological machines. If a mechanical machine can continue an organism's life-functions, and the only thing not working is the brain (as near as our current technology can determine) than not giving the person a chance at spontaneous recovery is unfortunate.

If this were me I'd want everything done to contonue mye xistence. Course, I'm only 42, what I might feel at 60, 80, and beyond remains to be seen. But right now, I'll only die kicking and screaming. :)

Steven Thorpe: Teenager declared brain-dead by FOUR doctors makes miracle recovery | Mail Online

They were told there was no chance of their son surviving after he suffered devastating injuries in a car crash.

But Steven Thorpe’s parents refused to give up hope – despite four specialists declaring that the 17-year-old was brain dead.

Convinced they saw a ‘flicker’ of life as Steven lay in a coma, John and Janet Thorpe rejected advice to switch off his life support machine.

They begged for another opinion – and it was a decision that saved him.

A neurosurgeon found faint signs of brain activity and two weeks later, Steven woke from his coma. Within seven weeks, he had left hospital. ..

Incredibly, he concluded that Steven was not brain dead and that there was still a slim chance of recovery.

Doctors agreed to try to bring Steven out of his chemically-induced coma to see if he could survive. Two weeks later, he woke up.

Remember when people used to be told that vegetative state patients were good as dead? Well here is a comatose patient that not only recovered but could hear things going on around him while he was in a coma.

These doctors want the organs to make millions in transplant operations and lie saying they know what they do not know.

Do you understand the difference between being in a coma and being dead?

The issue is there have been others declared brain dead and the doctors were flat out wrong.

Zack Dunlap

But 36 hours after the accident, doctors performed a PET scan of his brain and informed his parents, along with other family members who had gathered to keep vigil at the hospital, that there was no blood flowing to Zack’s brain; he was brain-dead.

Given doctors make mistakes, the decision should rest with the loved one. With that said, that decision may evolve but to force a family to remove a loved one should not be up to the hospital or a court.

Yes, and Thorpe was diagnosed by FOUR doctors as brain dead.

did you even bother to read the link I posted?

What happens when a person who got into this sort of state before the advent of Obamcare is told their health insurance has been cancelled as non-compliant and they must choose a new plan or lose their insurance?

Of course if they're a child (defined as under age 26 by Obamacare) they don't have to choose. Their parents have to do it. All of which raises the question of why the legal drinking and voting age isn't automatically 26 because prior to that they are officially federally defined as irresponsible children.
