    The reason:
Who is he going to turn off?
Women, Moderates, Independents, Latinos and fiscal conservatives.

Who is going to support him and keeping him in the race?
Social conservatives (the backbone of the GOP)

    Who will Romney appeal to?
Women, Moderates, Democrats worried about the economy, Latinos worried about the economy, Independents who don't see him a social conservative extremist (as everyone will see Santorum) and all AMERICAN'S worried about the economy.

Who is beating him up and not voting for him in the primaries?
Social conservatives (the backbone of the GOP). They are not voting for him, they are keeping Santorum alive. However, they WILL vote for him in Nov. You can guarantee it.

Who is voting for Romney allowing him to remain the lead in primaries?
Independents, right leaning moderates, fiscal conservatives and not your classic GOP votes. Romney is winning in swing states and liberal states. This is where the election will be won or lost. The red social conservative states that Santorum is winning, will be won by Romney. Those purple and even blue states that Romney is winning are the states necessary for a GOP victory. National elections are won and lost by the independent vote. If you can't appeal to them you lost. The party base can only get you so far.

Santorum appeals to the base, Romney appeals to the independents!

Every election cycle the same sad song is sung by the Conservatives! "The Democrats/Liberals/Moderates chose our nominee." McCain, Dole, Bush. Some unknown force, some secret conspiracy is responsible for the selection of the Republican nominee.

Well, there's no bogeyman, no cabal, no conspiracy to name the Republican nominee. the cold hard fact is there simply are not enough far right wing Conservative wing nuts to make the Republican party chose someone they feel good about. The Conservatives are a minority within the minority party.

Sure, you're loud. Sure you have magnificent mouthpieces you genuflect to (see Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Beck). But apart from that, you are too few in numbers to name a nominee, let alone win a national election with a Conservative candidate (like Li'l Ricky Santorum)

But none of that stops the whining, the weeping, the wailing, the gnashing of teeth and tearing of hair. It's pitiful and hilarious at once, this quadrennial complaint from the wing nuts.

that's because, like paulians, the self-professed conservatives (who are really reactionaries) think they represent mainstream thought.

then they believe, when their dearth of numbers is proven, that there must be some type of conspiracy at play.

Well can you blame them? I'd love for Obama to step down and let Maxine Waters run as the (D) nominee but that's because I'm a conservative libertarian.

Take some personal responsibility for your party and admit that it is not the unified GOP of yesteryear and is in fact now factional, paralyzed by contradictory goals and hamstrung by ideological zealots. Not going to hide the fact any longer that the social conservatives only mattered every two years, took them long enough to realize that the establishment GOP is not their friend.

Romney is not the answer to the economy. I wish he were since he's the GOP guy. But he isn't. So any fiscal conservatives with a half a brain will not support him.

Santorum is the pick for Dems because the guy is a menace and Obama will defeat him with ease. Of course Obama is gonna win anyway so the whole "choose the one he can beat real easy" stunt isn't quite necessary.

    No. No no no.

The liberal Democratics want ROMNEY. The biggest campaign issue will be overturning ObamaCare.

The one candidate least capable of convincingly arguing against ObamaCare is Mitt.

Of course they believe that they are in the mainstream of political thought. How else could they rationalize such self destructive policies? But what I find puzzling is how they think they're a large enough group to effect the political process. I think they are exposed to their own echo chamber too much. They listen to Rush, read Coulter, watch Fox and then believe that there are enough like-minded people to elect a president.

So far, all the Clown Car Candidates have done everything they can to "turn off" just about every segment of our society, including right wingers. A said above - its that way every 4 years. Heck, poor McSame was so desperate, he tried to force a total ditz on us but the voters saw right through that debacle.

I don't think it will matter much who the final Clown is because they all seem to be working undercover for the Dems.

Not to mention that President Obama has done everything the pubs can't - more than 4 million jobs while the pubs filibuster against jobs, economy, bin Laden ... you get the picture. He's not perfect but at least he's working for the United States instead of for foreign banks and foreign businesses.

And the lucky residents of Mass who continue to be very happy with Romney Care.

And Hawaii because they also have a variation of Romney Care and, as a result, they're insured, get better care and pay less for it.
