If the names of concealed carry permit holders in parts of New York are being published, then it seems to me that the names of all adults in the United States who DO NOT own firearms should also be published.

All of the people who are pro gun control, and demand that all law-abiding citizens should be banned from owning firearms, and believe that they don't NEED firearms to protect themselves, should be willing to put their NAMES and ADDRESSES behind their beliefs.

Those of us who do own firearms can be identified any number of ways. I personally don't have a problem with EVERYBODY knowing that I own several firearms. Criminals aren't going to mess with me. They'll "ply their trades" on "soft targets", like people who don't own firearms, and at places that are posted as "gun-free zones". If they make the mistake of messing with me and my family, it will be their FINAL mistake.

OK, anti-gun people.............it's time to identify yourselves. STAND UP for your beliefs. SHOW everybody that you are not COWARDS. PROVE to the rest of us that bringing a knife to a gunfight is a great idea for everybody.

Only about 1 in 3 households in the US have firearms yet most Americans do support the right of individuals to own firearms. Just because someone does not own a gun does not mean they oppose gun ownership. Likewise, because someone favors additional controls on gun sales, does not mean they oppose individual ownership.

Gun permit information, like most government permits are public record and can be published. The lack of a gun permit is not public record. Publishing such a list, could be consider invasion of privacy.

You have weird fantasies. Perhaps the warnings about mixing guns and medications are correct.

So -- if you "don't have a problem with EVERYBODY knowing you own several firearms" -- why would you be ashamed of being published as such?

Personally, I don't do guns because it's stupid to take a testy situation and escalate it. That temperance has never got me into trouble, even in the seediest areas. Understanding where you are and what it's made of is far better than simply trying to overpower it. That's my outlook anyway. But I don't need a permit for that attitude -- because it's not deadly.

Then again I don't believe this world is made up of "us and them" humans and subhumans. That "good and evil" dichotomy. If I whipped myself up to that kind of paranoia it might take me to a different outlook. I don't know. But I figure why should I put myself in that hole in the first place? So I don't. I've never really lived in comic books. Or spaghetti westerns.

So what list would that put me on? Between your first and second paragraphs you're asking for two different things. Frankly the simplistic thinking that if you don't care for guns, then you're trying to take them away, is as fallacious as the idea that the only way to meet violence is with more violence. It just ain't that facile. To pretend it is is at best lazy and at worst dishonest.

Having lots of guns around doesn't seem to have prevented this. Imagine a school where the teachers are armed. That would seem to be a "soft target" for getting a gun and going on a rampage.

Concealed Carry Permits are NOT a matter of public record in all 50 states. Each state has their own individual gun laws.

I am not "ashamed" that I own guns and have a concealed carry permit. So does my wife. If somebody wants to publish my name in some leftist bird-cage liner, go right ahead. I especially want the CRIMINALS to know who I am, and that I am armed at all times. I want my friends and other family members who don't have firearms or CCPs to know that I've got their back and I'll protect them if the occasion arises.

You go ahead and defend yourself from violent criminals with a steak knife or a baseball bat or a lamp or whatever other "defense plan" you have. That's your choice. You obviously have a death wish.

Is this the BEST you can do to counter my argument? The "all or nothing" concept? If a criminal with a gun confronts you, what are YOU going to do about it? Overpower him? Cower in fear? Grab a chair or lamp and throw it at him?

Law enforcement people get overpowered and have their weapons compromised. You see it on TV all the time. NOTHING is absolute and NOTHING is perfect.

Try again, except next time make your point like an intelligent ADULT.

A gun is the only way to defend myself if my opponent has a gun. I suppose you don't agree with that either? What would you do if somebody had a gun and threatened to use it on you? TALK him into submission? Offer him money? Offer him your body?

Once again, ANOTHER stupid response. "All or nothing". YOU and your ilk should NEVER be allowed anywhere near a firearm. You're too ignorant and immature to figure out which end is the "business" end.

Borrowed from a friend........and love it. I'll give up my gun when they pry it from my cold dead hands!

Lambs Without Sheepdogs Will Be Slaughtered By Wolves

Killing people is a moral problem not a societal problem. There are few people who want to talk about morality these days. It’s no wonder that there are no longer any moral taboos. What was considered immoral 40 years ago is being made formally legal today by voters, legislators, and our courts. I believe there is a relationship between “defining deviancy down” and an increase in the disregard for other people. An uptick in ‘Moral Misfits ‘ is the result.
The usual suspects are out in force calling for additional gun-control measures. School children are most vulnerable to gun violence. They can’t defend themselves, and neither can the teachers. Schools are “Gun Free Zones,” but only for the law abiding. Criminals don’t care about gun laws; that’s why they’re criminals.
Thieves don’t care about laws against theft, and rapists don’t care about laws against rape. The same is true about drinking and driving. We’ve just had a high profile drunk driving arrest. “Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Price-Brent was arrested early Saturday morning [December 8, 2012] on intoxication manslaughter charges involving a car accident that killed teammate Jerry Brown.”
Laws won’t stop people intent on doing harm.
So what do the law-abiding citizens do? They arm themselves just like they would in war. There are terror insurgents in the United States hell-bent on destroying others. That’s a fact.
Just the other day a young woman was murdered when she told three teenage thugs to “get a job.”
More people are killed in the United States through violent means than are killed in our current foreign wars. In March of this year, violence in Chicago had left 52 people dead – more than twice as many as died in the March of 2011. There were 39 Coalition Military Fatalities in Afghanistan during the same month.
Schools should immediately develop a program where every teacher is trained in how to handle a firearm. All teachers must comply to get hired. If Israel can do it, why not America? Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America wrote the following in 2008: “In the mid-seventies, a terrorist attacked an Israeli school bus, murdering over 30 children. . . . A majority of Israelis . . . found a compelling reason for putting guns in schools — terrorists would get guns whether Jews were armed or not. As a result, schools in border areas, and school buses, were manned with gun-toting teachers or others assigned to be at the ready.”
Signs should be posted around the school that read:
“The teachers and administrators of this school are armed and trained in deadly force. Anybody attempting to enter the school intending to do harm will be shot on sight.”
Instead, if a student draws what looks like a gun, he’ll be suspended for ten days.
And what should we do with those who are involved in a murder spree? They should be executed. The man who shot and killed a number of people at Gabrielle Gifford’s campaign rally and the man who killed the people in the movie theater are still alive.
There is no doubt that these men killed these people. Their mental state, either before or after the shootings, is irrelevant. They should be dead by now.
We need some public executions to send a message.
Let’s stop blaming law-abiding citizens and go after the criminals

Actually, "all or nothing" is a good description of the gun-on-gun mentality. Kinda final. That's simplistic thinking. The fact that one gun exists doesn't mean you need a second gun to ensure that the first one fires. As another poster put it, like putting gasoline in a fire extinguisher (I told him I'd steal that metaphor :D)

Your nonchalant attitude towards the evils in our society are putting you in danger. But, since you believe that inanimate objects kill people, and personal responsibility is just a theory, I understand why you have the attitude you do.

Pogo.......I hope to heck you are never in a position where a shooting is taking place in a cinema or your child is in situation like the Conneticutt school. Where I shop or any place I go.....people are safer as an assassin would be taken out in a matter of seconds. Practice and more practice makes for a solid aim and lead posioning between the eyes will save many lives. I'm just a sweet little lady who will never be a victim. I may be killed by my gun one day but it will be because I was beaten to death with all chambers empty.

You have NOTHING to contribute to this debate. Did I say that violent criminals ONLY ply their trade on soft targets? No. Check the HISTORY of where the vast majority of mass murders have occurred. Schools, shopping malls, restaurants............all soft targets. All "gun-free" zones.

You need to stay in your own lane. Switch to a different topic in this forum, before you embarrass yourself more than you already have.

"inanimate objects kill people"? Like what, meteors?

Actually I have had guns pulled on me, yet it looks like I'm still here. They were apparently cops, though then never identified themselves as such. Now, had I been packing, I might have met gun with gun, since that's apparently the mentality, and as a result wouldn't be here today.

But again, I don't live inside DC comic books. It's just how I roll.

Oh really?!?! Then explain this.

Stalking suspect dead after overpowering arresting officer, taking gun, wounding 3 | Fox News

Having lots of guns around doesn't seem to have prevented this. Imagine a school where the teachers are armed. That would seem to be a "soft target" for getting a gun and going on a rampage.

Are you seriously suggesting that this one single incident of a cop getting overpowered by a perp, out of the hundreds of arrests that happen daily with out incident, is somehow in of itself proof beyond any reasonable doubt that being armed is not a good defense against an armed assailant?

Either you are a dishonorable liar or an incredibly stupid, ignorant individual.

Which is it?
