It’s time for a permanent (non-US) home for the Olympic Games

What a great idea. Get all the member nations of the IOC to chip in and have one great venue that will serve forever. No massive debt for any one city.

Any number of places could do. But Greece is the obvious choice, at least for the Summer Olympics. It has an undeniable historical claim. It staged a well-run Olympics in 2004. The facilities it built wouldn’t be too costly to refurbish. And the extra tourism money that Greece would receive would help it pay off its debts — one reason International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde has recently spoken favorably about the idea.

considering the damage and vast debt that follows every Olympics, I would not want it near any city that I'm close by.

Only Atlanta has ever kept it's stadium from going under.

It wouldn't be as problematic if they games were in a fixed place because the costs would be lower over time per game and they could learn to adapt their operations to be more efficient with each round. I have no problem with a permanent host on the summer side, but am not sure Greece would be the best place in Europe for it.

Greece is another socialist shit hole, is desperate for money and is possibly the next country to be over run by muslims.

Atlanta still has theirs up and running

Greece is overdeveloped. I would rather see it in some place like France where it could be spread out. Wouldn't want it here in the US.

That can be handles with extra manpower. Not everything has to be packed into Paris. Pick the Scandinavian countries collectively. I don't care just so long as it isn't in the US.

Is there some particular reason you don't want it in the US?

Yes. America is so dominant in athletics in a lot of these competitions, it looks like we are getting even more advantage with perma-homefield advantage. I guess i still like the ideal of amateur athletics even though the Olympics are anything but these days.

ok, makes sense.

I barely watch the olympics anymore.

It used to be our college and HS kids vs their pros, now it's pros v pros at all levels it seems

Greece is the best choice for such a move. Politically, it's relatively neutral, and Greece is where this whole *showcase* began.

It's all about 'public marketing.'

Remember during the '80s, we made personalized mix-tapes with our handy-dandy audio cassettes? Now, we can personalize mobile networking with our handy-dandy iPhones. People love convenience.

No one is offended by Greece, so it's like a 'user-friendly complex.'

Go for Greece, and people won't say things like, "This is another Israel-Palestine thing."
