Palin limited her duties further by hiring a deputy administrator to handle much of the town's day-to-day management. Her top achievement as mayor was the construction of an ice rink, a project that landed in the courts and cost the city more than expected.

Arriving in office, Palin herself played down the demands of the job in response to residents who worried that her move to oust veteran officials would leave the town in the lurch. "It's not rocket science," Palin said, according to the town newspaper, the Frontiersman. "It's $6 million and 53 employees."

palin was picked to appease the conservative base and the rightists christians....hoping to drain off enough of the hillary voters who hate obama to another woman. stupid move...but obama needs to be hitting harder and harder not soften his rhetoric....i assure you the republican are going to be coming on hard....i did note that palins speech raised 8 million for obama and 10 million for mccain...obama has the war chest he needs to start using it...any neutral or leaning state needs to be worked hard and heavy. the key to obama's past senate race was the registering of younger voters and getting the vote out...if he can do that in the tied and leaning states...motivate the youth and make sure that the blacks vote...he may stand a chance...never discount the republican party..they are like the negative winners...lies and more lies...mccain has been the victim of that himself with the negative campaining in sc....about mccain's black child...one he and cindy adopted...obama better smarten up and toughen up...
