Its got to be the greatest irony in human history that China switched to capitalism, we switched to Obama communism, and China is surging while we are dying.

Most economies on this planet are a mixture of socialism and capitalism. True China has considerably more socialism than the US, but it will probably adopt more capitalism with time.

We haven't "switched to communism." That's overstating it. If obama gets reelected though...

China hasn't switched to capitalism any more than we've switched to socialism. Both, however, are embracing corporatism. Sadly, that is the predominant trend in most government. Could get very ugly this century.

Truth!

And like most of the really insidious developments in history, most of us don't even see it happening.

Well looky there!

In this year's index, Hong Kong retains the highest rating for economic freedom, 8.90 out of 10 (down slightly from 9.01 last year).

What is currently called "economic freedom" is corporate freedom.

The point being to throw around liberal catch phrases indiscriminately?

Is that all 'corporatism' is to you? Do you even know what it means? Look it up. Don't feel bad. Most liberals don't know what it means either.

It doesn't apply to the US or to China's adoption of market reforms. Maybe YOU need to look it up.

I already did. Long ago. Corporatism is the style of government we are rapidly embracing. So is China. We are abandoning rule of law in favor of a regulatory state that divvies up power among competing interest groups. Seriously, check it out:

Corporatism - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Corporatism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you're thinking of corporatism as a 'liberal catch phrase', then you're missing the point of my comment altogether.

I don't need a link to a dictionary, thanks. I know what the term actually means. You have misapplied it to the US and even more so to China's adoption of market reform. You are guilty of hyperbole at least and gross ignorance at worst.

Nope. As I said, most people aren't even noticing. You can count yourself among them I suppose. But that's where we're headed. PPACA is a shining example. Most of the policies of the Obama administration are straight up progressive corporatism and are radically transforming and expanding the power of government over our lives.

Whereas we are moving from classical liberalism to corporatism, China is coming at it from the other direction, dissolving a centralized, top-down authoritarian regime into a distributed (but still predominately state-controlled) power structure. But both countries are moving toward similar styles of government. It's not a good thing.

It's clear you don't know what the hell you're talking about. That's how I knew you were just throwing around what for mindless liberals like you are just catch phrases you think you can apply to anything.
