Pennsylvania?

Well, the recipe originated from Maine when I lived there a few years back.

i ask because you call them hoagies. The names can be regional. Submarines, grinders, hoagies, dagwoods.....

I was just curious. :)

The proper term is "hero". My preferred combo is:

Provalone
Olive salad
shredded lettuce
roasted peppers
sliced tomatos
Mortadella
Salami
capicolla
Prosicutto

I usually like oil and vinegar as the dressing. you can also sneak some pepperoni slices in if you want.

This sounds yummy too!

Hoagies, subs, heroes, grinders...yeah, I think it's regional.

My mother calls them hoagies. I have always called them Italian combos.

Heart healthy and tasty too:

Thinly sliced lean roast beef
Monterey Jack Cheese
Tomato
Lettuce (romain)
Red onion rings
Banana peppers
Mayo & creamed horseradish,
on SF sourdough cut into a roll.
.

Thanks for the memory of growing up in South Brooklyn and Angelo's Deli. His sandwiches could make a teen-age boy forget about sex for half an hour. An Angelo "hero" and a cold bottle of Shaefer beer under a tree in Prospect Park on a hot summer afternoon was as close to heaven as it got.

Italians gave the world music and food. No equal. (And I'm not Italian.)

The Italians gave us music, food and hot Italian chicks. Their women are beautiful.
