Here's the thing, Penny! I have absolutely no problem with a "safety net" for those Americans who through no fault of their own have come on hard times. What I have an issue with is the cradle to the grave entitlement society that you progressives have been pushing for decades now. I know that will immediately have you calling me a "heartless bastard" but it there's one thing that I've learned during my lifetime it's that giving things to people is a dangerous road to go down...and I sincerely believe that notions like a "living wage" or a "guaranteed wage" are in the long run detrimental to the very people they are supposed to be helping!

You speak about being "anti American"? To me the most anti American thing you can propose is wall to wall entitlements. We didn't become the envy of the world because our people were given free things...we became the envy of the world because we gave people the opportunity to succeed through innovation and hard work. The Democrats declared a "War on Poverty" back in the 60's and since then we have poured trillions of dollars into programs to "help" the poor yet our levels of poverty haven't gone down. How can that be?

My reply to that is...how could it be anything but that? When you give people free stuff they lose the incentive to work. It's human nature. You've got generations of people who don't have a work ethic because it's never been something they NEEDED to have! They just assume the State will provide for them.
