I tend to believe that people on the left see the state as the guardians of our utopia and without a strong state utopia will be lost. Its the reason why they want the state to raise our kids. They want to ensure adults that will mesh well into their utopian society.

When those two went to College it was all about "America is the bad guy" and "The Soviet Union is the good guy." They may try and deny this now but they know they truly supported that stuff.
