Israel Advocates Fight Over Chuck Hagel - ABC News

Chuck Hagel will probably be nominated as the next secretary of defense, and some conservative Israel backers aren’t happy about it.

A former Republican senator from Nebraska, Hagel could have expected some turbulence from Israel-backing groups after he opposed unilateral sanctions on Iran and supported talks with Hamas, as The Daily Beast’s Eli Lake has reported.

Now, some of those voices are speaking up.

Read more about Hagel here.

The Republican Jewish Coalition has aired a list of grievances against Hagel, with executive director Matt Brooks issuing this statement: “Chuck Hagel’s statements and actions regarding Israel have raised serious concerns for many Americans who care about Israel. The Jewish community and every American who supports a strong U.S.-Israel relationship have cause for alarm if the president taps Hagel for such an important post. The appointment of Chuck Hagel would be a slap in the face for every American who is concerned about the safety of Israel.”

Weekly Standard editor William Kristol, who also leads the Emergency Committee for Israel, lambasted Hagel in an editorial in his magazine, citing Hagel’s “anti-Israel, pro-appeasement-of-Iran bona fides,” and, “record of consistent hostility to Israel over the last decade.”

It doesn't amount to a hill of beans about who supports Israel or not. And Hagel has to win approval from AIPAC. Ain't that a kicker?

It doesn't surprise me in the least the appointment of Chuck Hagel by Obama, which does nothing to support his credentials as a fan of Israel, rather the exact opposite could be assumed.

The strange, muddled pacifists pro Iranian policies held by Hagel - even though he is a republican -could well prove to be a disaster for both the US and Israel.

Not a good choice.

For once you said something true and intelligent...Yes AIPAC does rule the politics in Congress, and political fights like this will expose their money power. Someday, as it always happens, people are going to notice...We shall see if the next generation loves Israel more than America?

Stay tuned and Tx. for your honesty, I'm going to put in a good word for you with Barney Fife.

How does the nomination of an anti-Israel former Republican senator from Nebraska for Sec of Defense denote some worldwide loss of support for Israel's political right?
Fact is not much of the world gives a fuck about Israel's right or left.
I have a bit of info for you, Princess ... America has had anti-Israel politicians, cabinet members and even entire administrations. Israel survived. :D

Hegel’s nomination is a sure indicator of continuing drop of support by the USA and the world. Figure it out? The recent UN vote had only nine votes against creating a Palestinian State to the sixty seven borders... And all American allies did not go along with the US vote, which tells me that the US told its allies to vote the way they wanted.

Netanyahu and the Israeli right will survive, until Israelis tire of war.

You read much into less-than-nothing. Hagel's nomination indicates nothing of the sort. As I said, not many people worldwide give a rat's ass about Israel's right or left and what you think you see regarding the UN vote isn't light at the end of your tunnel ... it's just another train coming to run you over. :D

...Not only UN votes, but worldwide polls show that Israel is less popular than Iran...

You just don't get it..or admit to it ...sure it doesn't mean much yet, its always a slow crawl to sanity when you're in power, it is intoxicating...the Right in Israel is de-legitimizing her status...the question is will they sober up and smell the coffee and accept the two state solution offered by the UN vote, or keep putting Israel’s future fate in danger?

Gee ... 1 Jewish state and dozens of Muslim ones. If you are suprised by the results of polls which include 1.4 billion Muslims vs 15 million Jews, you are dimmer than was, until now, considered humanly possible.
And none of what you say supports your conclusion (what a surprise!).

Another Pro- Palestinian lie. The U.N. " recognition" says nothing about Borders. Even if it did Israel is not going to go back to the Borders that the Arabs themselves never acknowledged or respected. Hagel? lol The Israelis should treat him like the Ass- Hole he is. He wants Israel to " negotiate" with Hamas. That is not going to happen either :D

Israel's popularity climbs in annual BBC poll, but overall global impression is still negative - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

Israel is one of the least popular countries in the world, right down there with Iran, North Korea and Pakistan - this, according to a new BBC World Service Country Rating poll carried out between December 2010 and February this year and released yesterday.

As part of the poll, 28,619 participants from 27 different countries were presented with a list of 16 countries and the EU, and asked the following question about each one: "Please tell me if you think each of the following countries is having a mainly positive or mainly negative influence in the world." The possible responses were: "mainly positive," "mainly negative," "depends" and "neutral."

What does Israel's global standing have to do with her political right? You have no idea what motivated the neg votes. What has this poll to do with Obama's choice for Sec of Def? Do you believe he was influenced by your poll? :D

If you want to ignore the words in front of your face fine. The poll clearly state not 129 Muslim countries but "28,619 participants from 27 different countries were presented with a list of 16 countries..."

I'm really supprised by your ignoring the truth...I guess that what you do when the facts make a fool of you.

Dancing and dodging, your answers are in the link I provided. If you can't see the correlation between the UN vote on Palestine, and the BBC poll and Obama' displeasure with Netanyahu, then there's very little hope of your understanding of Geo-Politics.

Israel is " less popular" then the Sudan or Syria? lol. I think Israel should start to kill and enslave the Palestinians. That might help their standing..... lol :D
