This is unbelievable!

Upon receiving word that the US was planning to vote in favor of the resolution - viewed by Israel as impractical and failing to address its security concerns - Olmert demanded to get Bush on the phone, and refused to back down after being told that the president was delivering a lecture in Philadelphia. Bush interrupted his lecture to answer Olmert's call, the premier said.

America could not vote in favor of such a resolution, Olmert told Bush. Soon afterwards, Rice abstained when votes were counted at the UN.

I hope Obama isn't anywhere near as much of a lapdog as Bush is to Israel

Big war of words in Israel over this. The Israelis understand that while this is probably true it's not something they should brag about.

WASHINGTON – In a rare and undiplomatic response, the kind that the US State Department does not usually issue to the media, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was accused of lying when he recounted how he called President Bush and forced him to order Condoleezza Rice to abstain in the vote on Security Council resolution 1860.

The State Department did not use the word “lie,” yet characterized Olmert’s words as “completely not true,” an expression that is also not found in the global diplomatic lexicon, and certainly not when it comes to the intimate relationship between the US and Israel. The statement, which has greatly embarrassed Israel’s Foreign Service, referred to the PM’s comments as “wholly inaccurate as to describing the situation, just 100%, totally, completely not true.”

Someone is lying!

It says she even helped write the resolution. Wonder what the other diplomats' faces looked like when she abstained:

0_0!

Rice must have felt so stupid. It's like she really has no real job. The rest of the world is going, "Told you so." The vast majority of Americans will not even know anything about this

You guys are aware that Rice doesn't vote on UN resolutions, aern't you?

No, obviously not.

The story is a fraud.

This is a big deal in Israel actually. This Israeli, in making his case to Obama not to be a slave to Israel, highlights it:

Go your own way - Haaretz - Israel News

In any case, you have no chance of being considered a friend of Israel for long, unless you become a lifelong slave of the next Israeli prime minister. Look what happened this week to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who faithfully stuck to former prime minister Ariel Sharon and incumbent Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and when she dared to abstain in a vote after eight years of being under the thumb, suddenly turned into the friend of the Palestinians, just like our Channel 2 news presenter Yonit Levy, whom you don't know yet. Our prime minister hastened like a spoiled brat to embarrass her in public, as though he had never placed a masterful hand on Condi's shoulder, as is his wont when it comes to leaders, and never patted her lightly on the shoulder with arrogant chumminess.

That's what will happen to you when you don't agree to wag like a tail; you will also be interrupted in the middle of a meeting in Philadelphia and reprimanded, when you announce your intention of talking to Iran and Syria, and perhaps to Hezbollah and Hamas as well. On the contrary, follow your own path and talk to them, talk to everyone, talk to anyone who is willing to talk. For eight years they didn't talk, they only tried to educate the entire world using sanctions and the sword, and this is the result.

For believing something that is obviously true?
That isn't the case here, did you not read the part about the SOS doesn't vote in the UN.

Ya know, that probably is your definition of stupid.
No, you are that definition, and every other knuckledragging troglodyte jew hater who floats in here like you.

We fought a world war to be rid of you simpletons, take the hint.

i guess if the SoS can vote at the UN we might as well recall and eliminate the position of US UN Ambassador
