Israel spy chief fears Jewish extremist plot - Yahoo! News

I wonder if Joe Lieberman is being watched?

JERUSALEM – The head of Israel's internal security service said Sunday he is "very concerned" that Jewish extremists could assassinate an Israeli leader in an attempt to foil peace moves with the Palestinians.

There has been a recent increase in violence by hardline Jewish settlers in the West Bank, and this week, Israel marks the 13th anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by an Israeli opponent of his negotiations.

"Just ahead of the anniversary of Rabin's murder, the Shin Bet sees in the group we're talking about on the extreme right a willingness to use firearms in order to halt diplomatic processes and harm political leaders," Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin said. "The Shin Bet is very concerned about this."

Diskin spoke at the weekly meeting of the Israeli Cabinet, and his statement was released by another meeting participant who spoke on condition of anonymity because the session was closed.

I wonder what they'll think once Obama gets chummy with Hamas?

Hamas praises Obama win as 'historic victory for world'

Terrorists drafting letter of congrats to be sent directly to president-elect

November 05, 2008

JERUSALEM – The Hamas terrorist group believes the election of Sen. Barack Obama is an "historic victory" for the world and an opportunity to change U.S. foreign policy toward engagement with America's foes, Ahmed Yousef, Hamas' chief political adviser in the Gaza Strip, told WND in an exclusive interview today.

Yousef, speaking by cell phone from Gaza, said Hamas is drafting a letter of congratulation to be sent tomorrow directly to Obama.

"We want to be one of the first to congratulate him," Yousef said.

Yousef told WND he believes an Obama administration will be more willing to engage in dialogue with Hamas.

"I praised him six months ago, some people tried to use that against him.
Yousef was referring to an interview he gave to WND and WABC Radio in April in which he praised Obama and then found his comments had fueled a firestorm of accusations in the presidential campaign.

Hamas is responsible for scores of suicide bombings, rocket attacks, shootings and cross-border raids. Its official charter calls for the murder of Jews and destruction of Israel. Just today, Hamas members took responsibility for launching dozens of rockets from Gaza aimed at Jewish civilian population centers.

Hamas is a legally recognized political party with a majority of seats in the Palestanian government.

What is wrong with them wanting to congratulate the new President of the United States?

Hamas is both a terrorist organization and a mass social, political and religious movement. The military branch is reportedly divided into three wings: an intelligence arm which gathers information about Palestinians suspected of collaboration, an arm which pursues those who have violated Islamic law and the Izzedine al-Qassam squads who are responsible for most of the terror attacks. The al-Qassam squads are comprised of a few dozen activists loosely organized into small, shadowy terror cells, at times operating independently of each other. Hamas' military and political leaders are based throughout the West Bank and Gaza and the organization maintains offices and representatives in Teheran, Damascus and Amman. The connections and levels of coordination between the military and political branches are concealed.

HAMAS formed in late 1987 as a result of the first Palestinian Intifada (uprising). Its roots are in the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, and it is supported by a robust social and political structure inside the Palestinian territories. HAMAS has used various forms of violence, including high-profile terrorist attacks against Israeli civilian targets, designed to disrupt peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian officials and to prevent agreements aimed at ending the conflict. The group’s charter calls for establishing an Islamic Palestinian state in place of Israel and rejects all agreements made between the PLO and Israel. HAMAS’s strength is concentrated in the Gaza Strip and areas of the West Bank.

The certain "Freedom Fighters" meet the qualifications for terrorists. So sorry.

But, basically, while you are here....what the Arab world has failed to come to grips with about Israel is that you have a mini-super power in your midst. Israel has a nuclear triad. Missiles, bombs and submarine launched nukes from some very advanced German Diesel boats. So advanced that probably only the US could find them.

The Arabs call on the West to confront Israel and make them disarm. However, they fail to recognize that nuclear powers are never confronted. About is good as you are going to get is uneasy tension. That's what the US and the USSR had. Perhaps if an Arab nation develops nukes they can achieve military parity with the Israelis and they too can join the club that can have an uneasy tension of Mutually Assured Destruction with Israel. Or, you can avoid all that and figure out how to live in peace and accept the fact, after 60 years, Palestine is gone forever.

If not, the Palestinians can continue to suffer and afflict the world. as between two victims, you would have us choose, but it will never happen.
