The Mavi Marmara ship, the lead boat of a flotilla headed to the Gaza Strip which was stormed by Israeli naval commandos in a predawn confrontation, sails into the port of Ashdod, Israel May 31, 2010. Israel on Sunday, threatened to ban international journalists for up to a decade from the country if they join a flotilla planning to breach the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.

You have to laugh at anyone who calls Facsist Israel a democracy.

You have to laugh at anyone who calls Facsist Israel a democracy.

That's three things you apparently know nothing about, laughing boy, fascism, democracy and Israel. Because Israel has a vibrant, robust democracy with freedoms equal to or exceeding those of the other great democracies, it immediately reversed this decision.

Israel has dropped a threat to deport and ban foreign journalists aboard a flotilla bound for Gaza.

On Sunday, Israel had said any journalist caught on board could face deportation and a 10-year ban from the country.

But today, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says today that has ordered authorities to find a formula dealing with the reporters, the Associated Press reports.

lol you think because they say they dropped it means they did? apperently you know nothing about Israel because they have a history of banning and intimidating reporters.

The MSM has been repeating Israel's lies without question for decades. It does not want to alienate that group.

Only in your fantasies. In fact, even under very difficult circumstances, Israel has a record of protecting freedom of the press that is equal to or surpasses those of the other great democracies. Every government has a history of conflict with the media in some circumstances, the UK, US, France, etc., but Israel is one of the most liberal because its own reporters are so aggressively demanding of their rights they have opened the doors for foreign reporters wider than other countries have and because the Israeli government and Israeli people are so self critical that measures inimical to their values come under swift and effective criticism in Israel.

Yes after

The Foreign Press Association in Jerusalem described the warning, which the GPO director, Oren Helman, sent to international media organisations, as a "chilling message" that raised questions about Israel's commitment to freedom of the press.

Netanyahu is claiming he did not authorise this and it is kind of hard to stop them if they are on the boats already - though come to think of it they did a very good job of removing material last time...

Like Tinmore says "How do we spin this"

It is quite extraordinary that Israel believes she has sufficient influence that she could ban journalists and believe she can still have any credibility left as any relation to Western Democracies.

Ah! very true. That will be why they thought they could get away with it because they knew they had done it before!!

However that time they managed to use the excuse that people would get killed. The person organising the ban will have forgotten that. No, we do not accept journalists to be banned - it just was not explicit enough to say it in concrete terms at Cast Lead, though everyone did know it was true. This will be why Nitanyahu realised that in this case the journalists were already on the boat. No way they can say too dangerous if they are already there.

The cat is out of the bag. Israeli's actions cannot face a free press.

Again, all governments have conflicts with the media even when they are not dealing with situations as difficult as Israel has to. Even if ordinary situations, the media is routinely excluded from active crime scenes until everything is under control, and in Gaza, these were active crimes scenes the IDF was dealing with. If you google, censorship and the name of any other of the great democracies, you will see that even without the difficult circumstances Israel has to deal, they routinely try to censor the news. The UK is among the worst offenders and the US may have the freest press, but it still is sued often for denying the media access to information. If you read the Israeli media, then you know Israel is among those other great democracies that have the least amount of censorship.

When there is no criticism there is more room for patriotism.
“The unprecedented denial of access to Gaza for the world’s media amounts to a severe violation of press freedom and puts the state of Israel in the company of a handful of regimes around the world which regularly keep journalists from doing their jobs.”
Media and the Gaza War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The quote is from the Foreign Press Association of Israel, which represents the reporters on the flotilla, so quoting them without attribution is like a judge asking the prosecutor, "Is he guilty? Yes? Well, that's good enough for me; send him to prison."
