Where the wild things are
Ynet: The Shin Bet has recently presented the Defense Minister Ehud Barak with a recommendation to approve the demolition of the homes of Amjad and Hakim Awad who murdered the Fogel family from Itamar over a year ago.

According to the recommendation the houses in the village of Awarta should be destroyed as part of the deterrence mechanism against Palestinian families who give refuge to members of the family involved in terrorism.

The trial of the two terrorists recently ended at the military court with multiple life sentences handed down for both culprits. Yet during the investigation the Shin Bet discovered that the relatives of Hakim and Amjad hid evidence and aided the two murderers in covering up their tracks.

The Shin Bet said on Sunday that "the organization's recommendation mainly relies upon the need to strengthen the aspect of deterrence among potential terrorists.

"In this case, the general need for deterrence is strengthened by a concrete consideration that stems from the fact that several of the terrorists' family members offered them assistance after the terror attack – by hiding the weapons stolen during the attack and by covering up the act through the destruction of evidence."

The Shin Bet denied that there are legal officials who are opposed to the move and mentioned a number of verdicts from the last decade where it was determined that the demolition of houses was legal and that there was no room, from the High Court's perspective, to intervene in these decisions.

"That was the case in the ruling over the destruction of the house of the terrorist responsible for the Merkaz Ha Rav yeshiva attack in 2005 and the destruction of the home of the terrorist who carried out the terrorist attack in Jerusalem in 2008," Shin Bet officials noted.

A meeting on the matter is set to take place over the next few weeks at the Attorney General's office with IDF and Defense Ministry representatives.

At first, Awarta village chiefs denied any connection between their village and the Itamar massacre but at the same time, after their arrest, the two murderers became idols in their village, according to defense establishment sources, with support banners and their pictures hung up throughout Awarta.

Meretz Chairwoman Zahava Gal-On criticized the Shin Bet: "The abominable murderers of the Fogel family must rot in prison. But I do not understand the political impetus to demolish their families homes after the IDF itself aborted the use of home demolition as a punishment mechanism since it is ineffective and immoral.

"It is clear that there is no deterrence effect and no security requirement for the move other than a political need towards the settlers."

Of course the demolition of homes is collective punishment and illegal.

And butchering sleeping babies in their beds *IS NOT*?

I am against the idea of destroying houses, since it helps nothing. If anything, put those people in jail. I don't get the idea behind destroying a house.

Israel doesn't know the ways of a civilized society. Jewish savages.

I mean the destruction of Gush Katif. 2005. "the demolition of homes is illegal." did you think the same about Gush Katif as well?:eusa_whistle:

That wasn't collective punishment.

Thusands of people were paying the price of failing Israeli policy, so it kinda IS.

Israel encouraged them to move into illegal settlements then pulls the rug out from under them.

Israel has screwed a lot of people, including Jews, with its bad policies.

Very true. Yet that still is not my point. You have stated that it's a bad thing destroying houses. I asked if that is the same conclusion you get into, in this case as well.

Muslimes are very civilized

:clap2: A 27-year-old mother of five was bludgeoned to death with an iron chain by her father last week in Gaza in what human rights groups report was an honor killing.

According to police in Gaza, the father, Jawdat al-Najar, heard his daughter Fadia, who had divorced in 2005, speaking on the phone with a man. He believed she was having a relationship with him. Police say al-Najar became enraged and beat her to death; her body was brought to a hospital where officials said she died of a skull fracture

The woman was beaten to death in the northern Gaza neighborhood of Jebalya on Thursday night. The father called police and confessed to the murder.

According to investigators for the Gaza-based Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, the father and his three sons were taken into police custody. They said the killing "was carried out on grounds related to 'preserving' the honor of the family."

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights, another Gaza-based organization, said hospital forensic reports show the woman's body showed signs of torture and that she suffered a skull fracture from being hit by an iron chain.

"Bad" is not the term I used. I stated that home demolition as a collective punishment is illegal.

BTW, Israel spent a lot of money destroying settlement homes when it left Gaza. Wouldn't it have been more profitable, and provide good will, to sell those homes on the open market?

Will you be willing to give your house to an Al Quaeda man if being expelled from there by your own government?

Because that is how the settlers saw it. They would have prefered to burn down their own houses, and not let the Palestinian enemy touch it.

I would have probably done the same thing:eusa_whistle:

Besides, the idea was to give back Gaza in the same way that wad recieved. a big nothing.
