IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz on Thursday declared a change in army policy whereby any firing at Israel's south will be met with an attack on Hamas, regardless of the group behind the fire. Similarly, any firing from Lebanon will result in an attack on Hezbollah, and any terror attack by Iran's emissaries overseas will prompt a response against Tehran.

Well that kind always has to pound somebody.

Israel reminds me of a miserably little wretch, with a big bully backing him up, running around threatening everyone.

Just the people who commit the racist hate crimes you're so fond of.

No, just the people who are trying to kill Israelis.

There's a reason indeed and clearly a line has been drawn.

Indeed, and more.

Hamas has established forward bases and rocket production facilities in the Sinai Peninsula in an effort to protect them from Israeli air strikes, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

By establishing the facilities in Egypt, Hamas aims to protect its assets since it believes Israel will not strike targets inside Egypt due to the affect it would have on bilateral relations.

Israel has called on Cairo to increase its efforts to restore order in Sinai and to prevent attacks, but the Egyptian military has held back from dismantling the Hamas infrastructure in the peninsula.

More than a dozen Egyptian army battalions allowed into Sinai with Israel’s permission (required because of limits placed on Egyptian forces there under the peace treaty) are still operating there, although with limited success in stopping terrorist activity and arms smuggling to the Gaza Strip.

Hamas sets up rocket production line in Sinai - JPost - Defense

The IDF has thwarted 10 different terrorist plots to attack Israel from the Sinai Peninsula in the past two months, head of Military Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi revealed on Thursday.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony for new Military Intelligence officers, Kochavi said that the firing of a Katyusha rocket into Eilat from the Sinai late Wednesday night was a demonstration of the changes that are sweeping through the Middle East.

“It could be that the change will bring new opportunities but in the short term the risks are increasing,” Kochavi said.

The intelligence chief said that terrorist groups were working to establish a stronger presence in the Sinai. In December, The Jerusalem Post reported how Hamas had established rocket production lines in the Sinai and was also moving some of its weapons caches there to protect them from Israeli airstrikes.

Hamas is taking advantage of the chaotic situation the Egyptian revolution engendered in Sinai, but it is also counting on an Egyptian government controlled by Islamists to be more tolerant of their activities and that Israel will not risk breaking the treaty by direct attacks against Hamas personnel and facilities in Sinai.
