Israel is marking its 60th Independence Day, which began at sundown Wednesday, with a great sense of pride but also uncertainty about its future and doubts about prospects for peace with the Palestinians. Six decades after rising from the ashes of the Holocaust, the Jewish state is still plagued by threats from abroad and an identity crisis at home.

Israel at 60 is a paradox of exuberance and despair — a country enduring near daily rocket attacks from militants while producing scientists who have pioneered Wi-Fi and instant messaging.

Its 41-year occupation of Palestinian territories has invited international condemnation. Yet Israel is a thriving democracy that has provided a haven for the world's Jews.

This Independence Day is marred by a fresh criminal inquiry of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, whose legal woes are calling his political survival into question just as he is moving to forge a peace deal with the moderate Palestinian leadership in the West Bank.

The economic, cultural and military successes of Israel, when compared to its neighbors, is no doubt profoundly influenced by the fact that Ashkenazi Jews, who make up a large percentage of the population, possess, on average, among the highest IQs in the world.

There is a bit of an inconsistency there, eh?

But it's anti-Semitic to point that out.

I'd be happy to sign off on a "haven" for any ethnic, religious or racial group that wanted one, but because Jews have stood so resolutely against such a haven for MY PEOPLE, I say, may God smite you.

Feel free to post whatever official legislation signed by the Government of Israel that is discriminatory against non-Jews.

It's anti-Semitic to make baseless allegations against a race of people based on nothing more your racist viewpoints. So, I guess you got one right.

Your own fucking people don't want your idea of a "safe haven" so WTF are you rambling about?

How long are you going to keep acting like an idiot? Just wondering. I have plenty of time.

Amazing that the anti-semites couldn't even stand letting one little celebratory thread go untainted. Freaking animals....

And they wonder why we wouldn't trust them to make decisions for Israel's well-being? lol... Too funny... as Hezbollah tries to overthrow the democratically elected government of Lebanon.

(Gee... I guess Israel should have been allowed to finish the job against Hezbollah..... ). Why aren't all the people who profess sympathy for downtrodden people and overthrown governments posting thread after thread about it?)

"Approximately 93 percent of land in the country was public domain, including that owned by the state and some 12.5 percent owned by the Jewish National Fund (JNF). All public land by law may only be leased, not sold. The JNF's statutes prohibit the sale or lease of land to non-Jews. In October, civil rights groups petitioned the High Court of Justice claiming that a bid announcement by the Israel Land Administration (ILA) involving JNF land was discriminatory in that it banned Arabs from bidding."

Actually they aren't trying to overthrow Lebanons government, considering they are backing down and not because they are losing either.

Not trying to overthrow the Lebanese government? Seriously?

Walid Jumblatt, a Druze leader and part of the March 14 pro-government coalition, described it as a "coup."

Jumblatt's coalition called the takeover an effort to "bring Syria back to Lebanon" and extend Iran's reach to the Mediterranean.

But they aren't a terrorist group either.

Larkinn gave you one. Another would be the Law of Return. Another would be, I don't know, the Six-Day War? How about the official legislation that makes Palestinians subject to search but not Jews? Or the wall? Or the attack on Lebanon? How about the attack on the USS Liberty? Do you even know what that is? I bet you don't.

Man, this is not even a serious question. Not even close.

Well, yes and no. White gentiles like you would deny to the point of having their fingernails pulled off that they're "racist" or want to live with other whites in safety and security. But they all seem to land in white neighborhoods anyway. Economists call this "revealed preferences," i.e., it's what you really want, but you won't admit it, and your actions confirm it. Think of porno: very, very few people admit to liking it, watching it or buying it. But guess what? The pornography industry makes more money that the NFL, the NBA and major league baseball COMBINED. Point made.

You mean they seized part of Beirut for fun? Anywhere else that would be called rebellion.

No, I mean they aren't trying to overthrow the government. They captured Beirut, and are giving it back. Considering they won, if they were trying to overthrow the government I suspect they would have done so.
