The headline in The Times was based on this paragraph from the book: "United States leaders refuse to accept the obvious. We are fighting a worldwide Islamic insurgency -- not criminality or terrorism -- and our policy and procedures have failed to make more than a modest dent in enemy forces."

Sure, some of what this guy has to say goes against Bush (also against clinton for the liberals), however this is some sobering and very non pc claims. They are fighting us on a religious ideology, not on anything we have done. Remember, they starting be-heading innocents before the prison scandal.

hmmm...

Just a quick thought - no they are not fighting us on a religious ideology for anything we have done per se; they are fighting us on a religious ideology for what we are.

This is the beginning of the war that will send the evil ones running an gnashing their teeth and regretting the day that they chose to confront us.

I support this war, but at the same time I am deathly afraid that many of the non "evil" ones are going to die long before the "evil" ones finally start running, gnashing their teeth and regretting the day they chose to confront us. This is a war that is going to last at least two generations if not three. Quite frightening when you think about it.

This is a religious war and we need to realize that. It is their religsious beliefs against the rest of the world. If we don't accept that for what it is, we are doomed to lose. One cannot fight a war while staying politically correct.

The real challenge is for us to fight the war without becoming a totalitarian state ourselves, or otherwise taking a huge hit to our whole way of life. There are always going to be people, whether on the left or the right, who are going to be more than happy to play "big brother" if something really really awful happens, such as a nuclear bomb.

I want to be safe to party in a hedonistic way with many scantily clad women while listening to profanity laden tunes, while drinking alcohol and smoking a cigarette, and enjoying a diet heavy in beef, driving an SUV, wearing cheap sneakers crafted by a 14 year old in Malaysia, and pulling down a good salary and stock options from a corporate employer who produces nothing more than information. People from the left or the right are jumping at the bit to take away different elements of that lifestyle.

Agreed!!! I have wondered many times myself if it will ever end. I hate to think of our children and grandchildren fighting this war.

Oh, sure!

I have been saying this whole thing was religious from the get-go, and people scattered or opposed.

Now you guys believe the one article.

You people have me GNASHING MY TEETH.

It is a religuous war on 2 fronts. One is the direct front of Islam vs. All other major religions. The other is Socialism vs All non-Islamic Religions. The concerted effort here in America to strip away our morals and values as well as our religion is just as big a war as the one we face directly against Islam. If we lose the battle at home, then Islam has already won.

Believe me when I say that President Bush already knows this is a religious war but doesn't speak of it for fear that some may bring out the lynch mob on all Muslims in America. It is a tight rope to walk knowing that many in your own country are schemeing against you and by law one has to tread carefully with our own laws on said subject.

I have seen first hand the red tape and all the rules the government has to follow before they just break down anyones door and arrest them. (Hence the reason we didn't stop them before 9/11 because everyone were too afraid of action because if it had turned out to be false peoples heads would roll.)

With that in mind Americans would rather die than give up their freedoms that you just pointed out. Sure most will endure the extra annoying wait at airports or other security measures that it takes to have a modicum of security. And I dont think giving up SUV's or beef or anything else would help the war on terrorism in fact I would daresay that it would only help the Islamic ideology.

Yes many good people will die but America will prevail because quite frankly it has the best from all over the world. The most adventuresome, the most take charge and agressive go-getters, the most charitable and giving humanitarians in the world. This is why we will always be great and this is why we will win against evil. Good ALWAYS wins in the end but not without us making sacrifices. Only Americans know how to do that well.

He claims muslims and Christians worship the same God.

That is either:

Compromise of faith to gain politically

or

IGNORANCE.

Either one proves I don't want him in office.

Ok...Now if he were to tell how he really feels think of how many people would gasp and how the left would have a field day with him. Sometimes we must bite our tongues to get where we need to go and do the things that are for the better of all. Haven't you ever told a lady she looks just fine ( and not really fat)instead of telling her the truth? Or do you like getting you ass handed to you by a female?

*On a side note who is better prepared to fight the war on terror if not Bush?

Lying is ok. Sure. Compromise with God is too.

Where the heck are YOUR ethics?

I just compliment on her hat.

You need to not make excuses for peoples bad habits and let them then run our nation. Lack of integrity is lack of integrity.

We still don't know WHAT he truly believes.

Any other non-compromiser with ethical moral standards who upholds our Constitution instead of destroying it like Bush is doing.
