I'd like to think they are an extreme bit of a cult inside a religion.

Not being much of a christian or some one that read the bible that much, but in 4 years of catholic school, not once did anyone mention god or christ hating anyone.

All christians beleive god is love and therefore he can not hate, anything.

Honestly they are a bunch of first class assholes in need of a serious beat down.

I feel for them, sorta, one day, some of them are gonig to break out their god hates... posters a the wrong funeral.

So you are saying when the OT says God hates some people, it was lying? I understand your beliefs, I just dont feel that way. The simple fact is there is NOTHING in the Bible that says God loves everyone. In fact it says the opposite, God both loves and hates.

By the way Romans 9: 13 "As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

Isn't there a story about the Buddhe sitting under a tree when a man came up and spit on his face? How did he react to that offense? Believe it or not, you being upset by WBC, then demanding that others support you because they are offending you, you only give them more power. i do not see how this is a logical conclusion of anything. god does hate in the bible but you are negating the grace of jesus shown in the new testament...

There are also parts of the Bible that they are completely ignoring as well, so they can't be taking it all that seriously.

For the record, I consider WBC a cult. They are anti-socialists, who see any action as a justifiable mean to the end.

That said, I completely ignore their religious beliefs, and support their right to free speech. The recent response by PFA and other patriot groups is the right approach, IMO. Non-violent, keep them away, continue to show them how pathetic, egregious, and disrespectful their protests are.

Censuring them for their beliefs would be no different than censuring Buddhists for theirs, no matter how much we may all disagree with them.

You shouldn't make a fetish of it. There have been problems with the text since Day 1. It always amazes me that it's the conservative Protestants that most often come to the defense of a Book constructed by Catholic bishops at the behest of a pagan Roman Emporer that didn't get baptized until he was on his death bed!

There is more to the Bible than the New Testament.

There are vast differences between the New and the Old.
Christian will differ to the New over the Old. At least they should.

Of course he will be, evil always greets people with warmth, a smile and a hand shake. Jim Jones of the Peoples Temple, Charles Manson, Saddam Hussein and Pol Pot were considered nice friendly people who were respectful and warm when they talked to you, you can't just take these people at face value.

Exactly, evil people are not always rude obnoxious and intolerance, they usually come to you with a smile on their face and greet you with a warm friendly hand shake. Fred Phelps is obviously good at what he does if hes got people viewing him as friendly.

Surely you arent going to go into that crap that Christians arent supposed to judge. And pull out the most misunderstood verse in the Bible. "Judge not, lest ye be Judged" in Matthew. You can always tell the people who havent read the whole Bible, when they claim that verse means we arent supposed to judge. That verse wasnt telling us we arent supposed to judge. Its warning Cristians about hypocritical judgement. Its basically saying
"Go ahead and judge, but remember, you will also be judged by the same measure" We know this, because we read the rest of Matthew, and not just that one verse. Plus, since we have read the WHOLE Bible, we know there are many other verses in the Bible that tell us judging is fine. In fact, Christians are ordered to judge, but judge righteously. John 7:24 orders us to "Judge not by appearance, but judge with RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT". Or perhpaps my favorite verse in the Bible, 2 Timothy 4, where Christians are ordered to preach the word in all seasons and rebuke and reprove all sinners. << rebuke and reprove means to judge and criticize. 2 Timothy goes on to tell us we should judge all sinners because the time will come when men will be ruled by lusts, and the lessons of the Bible will be turned into fables. Now when you think about it, isnt that exactly what WBC is doing?
