Barry is raising the stakes, sending hardware to the gulf, Iran's Imadingyslob says he will strike the west on Feb 11, things are getting quite tense.

As usual, we are doing Saudi Arabia's heavy lifting.

Tension between the US and Iran heightened dramatically today with the disclosure that Barack Obama is deploying a missile shield to protect American allies in the Gulf from attack by Tehran.

The US is dispatching Patriot defensive missiles to four countries – Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait – and keeping two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles. Washington is also helping Saudi Arabia develop a force to protect its oil installations.

This is just President Chamberlain, I mean, President Obama, following through on the deal he had made with Putin to cancel the missile defense shield in eastern Europe in exchange for absolutely nothing. While the Obama administration claims this is to prevent Iranian attacks in response to strong UN sanctions, we all know Russia and China will block any sanctions that might be more than annoying to Iran.

The US and like minded allies could impose strong economic sanctions against Iran outside of the UN, but this would weaken the authority of the UN and possibly be illegal and it would outrage Obama's liberal base, so that's not going happen while Obama is in the WH, and any military action to stop Iran's nuclear weapons programs would have similar political consequences for Obama, so, imo, what we are seeing is an attempt by this dangerously naive President to make the ME and Europe more comfortable with a nuclear armed Iran.

It certainly looks like it. Israel probably wont wait too much longer on taking some kind of action. God help us.

Let's see....we have a missile defense system in place NOW under Obama. How many years did Bush try to get one? Thanks Obama for keeping us safe, even if we all know Iran would never launch a missile at the US.

And where exactly would the U.S. Ground Forces necessary to fight this war come from?

Why would we need ground forces? If the goal is too take out Iran's nuclear weapons programs and to prevent retaliation from Iran against the US and our allies, this can be accomplished from the air. Iran's air force and air defense systems are antiquated and could be completely neutralized within the first hour of the war as could any large military assets such as missile batteries, armor or artillery or even any large movements of infantry that might seem to pose a threat. Iran would quickly be reduced to being able to do nothing more than launch small guerrilla type or terrorist attacks US forces and our allies and we are already on high alert against these types of attacks almost everywhere in the world so it's unlikely Iran could increase that danger significantly.

Hmmmm.....this line of thinking sounds vaguely familiar. Did you go to the DICK Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld school of Military Planning?

I don't see how adding defensive measures do anything but aid the president and the countries these missle shield systems are installed. I don't see this as upping the ante either, just covering all bases. I'm sure many on the left will have problems with this since it isn't really a dovelike move.

But But..."Missile defense sheilds are a waste of time & money and don't work at all." Well that's what most silly Hopey Changeys were screeching only a year ago anyway. Hmm?

This President also just called for the largest funding for the Military in U.S. History. Man,put an (R) by this guy's name and the Hopey Changey wing nuts would be completely freaking out over this stuff. Only a year ago they were all screeching about how Missile Defense Shields were a complete waste of time and money and didn't work at all. Why the sudden change of heart?

Which has NOTHING to do with this conversation, so why are you trying to deflect?
