Is this what James Madison had in mind?

Citizens might accidentally shoot each other, but no doubt, a Progressive government will murder tens of millions of its unarmed citizens

He wanted people to be armed so they could overthrow an abusive government. You leftist assholes love the idea of a dictatorship that silences people so of course you want to take peoples guns away.

Would you find an abusive government in a Walmart store?

No, James Madison did not envision a cretin such as yourself.

Laws need to relevant for the times we live in, not preserved in aspic. Americans have more to fear from guns falling into the wrong hands, be it children or nutcases, than from an abusive government.

China, USSR, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam to name a few.

Not to mention Cambodia, Laos, Burma, plus at least a dozen other communist butcher mills in Africa and Latin America where totalitarianism left its indelible stamp.

So how should we protect ourselves from the nutcases?

We are talking about a young mother being accidentally shot by her toddler.

What has Cambodia got to do with it?

The same thing James Madison has to do with it......

Read Federalist 46. In the eighteenth century, when the states were less uniform and more authoritative than they are now, they could secure support from their citizens in resisting encroachments, including from the federal government. For effective resistance, the people had to be armed.

Alexander Hamilton says the same thing in Federalist 29. Standing armies were not intended for our country, so the "people at large" were the militia, the states being responsible for organizing and training them when necessary.

The Second Amendment means exactly what it says. The people have recourse when injuries among them occur. Personal injuries are irrelvant to the amendment. That woman was rightfully in possession of that gun.

Our laws regarding recourse for homicide and other offenses are essentially the same now as they were in 1787. Or did you think that in the 18th century, children and nutcases refused to pick up guns?
