Is This the Best We Have to Choose From?

The main reason I wanted to join this forum is simple. As I was watching the news last night, much of it centered around either Trump and Cruz or Hillary and Sanders. This morning I read some on the upcoming Indiana Primary and I came to a very startling revelation. Which leads to the question/ title of this thread.

Are these the best four people America has to choose from to be the next POTUS? This is the cream of the crop? One of these four is the best we have? In November, this is who I will have to choose from? If this is the case, all I can say is WOW!?!

I am a Social Studies teacher. I taught about Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and Reagan to name a few. With everything we are capable of in America, with 300+ million people, these four are the best we have?

What does that say about America, Politics, and this whole process?

These are real questions. I am not trying to be sarcastic, argumentative, or start any "mess". I truly want to know if people actually think these four are the best America has to offer.

Sub-question: If they are not the best America has to offer, where are those people? Why are they not running? What in our culture in this country has changed the POTUS election that takes us from Lincoln to a billionaire womanizer, a shady looking car salesman, a wife who only stayed with her husband to get a chance at the Whitehouse, and a self proclaimed Communist?

The people we choose to "lead" us are a reflection of our society, as are the people we choose to entertain us.

Donald Trump will be representing one of our two major political parties. Kim Kardashian may be the country's biggest celebrity for no discernible reason. There are people literally pooping on television for our amusement. We're setting up "safe places" in colleges, places that used to be a bastion of freedom of thought & expression, of intellectual curiosity.

That's where we are. These are symptoms. Whether we choose to address them is up to us.

I believe there still are good people who would make fine leaders. Trouble is, most of them don't run because they don't want to go through the Jerry Springer show to get elected. If campaigns were about issues and policies, more good people would run. Mac1958 is probably right, it's the current society. Good people are dinosaurs, many of whom have just thrown up their hands at what our culture has come to and are hunkering down to live out their lives in anonymity.

No, but why would the best put themselves through the kind of process we've been witnessing. Trump would call them "little" or "low energy". He would have made fun of Lincoln's looks, Reagan's dyed hair, FDR's disability, Teddy Roosevelt's high pitched voice, and people would eat it up.

What people? Trump's plurality in the GOP primaries? And all of those politicians you name, would have fought back early rather than allow Trump to play the 'third party candidacy' game or play the waiting game allowing Trump to mock others and try to be the last one standing

Yaba, daba, doo, Barney! It matters not who is elected President as "whom ever" is but a target to hurl insults towards. Mean while, in the background, the chosen few establish and change policy to their liking. As for who those chosen few are, who knows and more saddening, no one cares. That is why government loves being "BIG", no one can be blamed responsible. As the liberal factor makes the most noise, that "squeaking wheel" will get the grease, Trump knows this, also. Yaba, daba, do!

The OP asked "is this the best we have to choose from"? I assume the OP is questioning our choices of candidates for President of these glorious United States.

My response; Politics is like the "Flintstones", a grand scheme designed to be large, unaccountable, and unblameable.

No one can even point to accountability as it does not exist.

Proof of that statement is Hillary Clinton herself.

The Socialist side of government is aware, as is the Socialist side of the population, a wheel which squeeks gets lubricated.

They do not like the fact that Trump is aware of this also.

Yab Daba Doo, is a line from the "Flintstones" of bygone era you must have missed or forgotten.

Happy to have obliged with the translation. Simply a satirical response to a general question asked by another individual. I asked the same question several months ago, in another thread, and received no response.
With regards to, "Is this the we have to chose from"? Absolutely not! The best wish not to be involved in such a cluster drill and stay clear. That is why we are left with a thief and a schemer or a schemer and a thief. Take your pick! Have I touched a nerve? I know that feeling, as I have only one nerve left and you are treading upon it! But then that is the purpose of the USMB, is it not? Best regards

I trust that clears that up? If not, I am not hard to find.

What is a Sagan? Just kidding! Besides, that question belongs in Science and Tech.

We are the victims of our own success. While our government remained relatively small, our general freedom and prosperity allowed us to ignore politics. Now that it has grown immensely, we don't know what to do with it. And those in power want to keep it that way.

I could not agree more Woodie. I personally have serious reservations with Trump. Clinton is no problem for me to understand. She and Bernie are two peas in a pod from my point of thinking. Perhaps to different degrees but still peas. Trump on the other hand is an unknown. Showman, successful business man, entertainer, verbose, unscripted, simply Trump for now. Harry Truman was truly an unknown and turned out to be a decent President. It took balls to frag Japan, as he did. There can only be one boss however. Obama, in spite of every thing has proven some what the same, but I am not praising him with that. In my opinion he is simply obstinate. Perhaps Trump would prove to be the same, but follow a different course. Time I suppose will tell but he has tripped the American trigger in that he has said, "make America great again". He signals change which is what I feel most want. His stance of, we have to help ourselves before anyone else is captivating. On that point I have to agree/disagree on different levels. How ever as much as the establishment cannot accept him, I as an individual citizen have to agree. We have spent far too much on the World, in all respects. This truly is a crap shoot this time around and as a people, we have to under stand that point. They did not name the game "crap" without reason. So, I will vote and roll the dice. Sevens would be nice and Clinton is not seven material, in my opinion. Thanks for responding, I enjoyed a reasonable response for a change. Ain't America wonderful? Oh, and before I forget to mention, this whole chain of events began with citizens wanting to change the Congress. If things keep on as they have that may just come to fruition, sooner than later. That is my true desire, to clean out that "Rats Nest". Then, to hell with who the President is!
