Is this prostitution?

Now I love The South. So much so that I just backspaced and retyped to capitalize the words, here in The South, the "Mrs. Degree" is highly prevalent.

Every part of the country has the type, but when compared to California golddiggers or the Real Housewives of New Jersey...ours are a lot more sophisticated about it. Maybe it's because we started as a poorer, debtor society with a disparity between beautiful women and rich landowners. Maybe it's because we're more superficially polite.

As long as two consenting adults agree to the arrangement, it ought to be fine.

For most people, college is a negative NPV investment. Unfortunately they don't understand the concept of Net Present value, nor can they compute it without making this poor investment choice to begin with.

But whatcha gonna do? :dunno:

Jeez, and here I thought this was capitalism at work? Is prostitution when it comes to sex the only prostitution? Or could we define prostitution as giving in to any power? Prostitution is legal in Nevada and considered the world's oldest occupation by many people. So I guess my question is, if you consider prostitution a bad thing, how would you prevent it or work to make it less bad? Or are you just moralizing online because that is what you do best? Requires nothing from the critic, that makes all thought easy.

That seems to be a logical argument. Personally I see nothing wrong with prostitution, except the crime we allow to revolve around it. If we had brothels or in-home service it would be a much more respected trade. And it works both ways, guys & gals doing it for livings. The bachelor/bachelorette partys are popular as well.

Yes, I think many people should wait to go to college IF they don't know what they want to study or major in, instead of just going because it's 'the thing to do" after you graduate from high school. 18 years old is young, and you're away from home for the first time, living with others your age- unsupervised and free to do what you want. :smoke: :booze: Some are not mature enough to handle that, such as getting to classes, turning in assignments, and making the grades to continue. Thus the drop out rate after freshmen year is very high.

I went for 3 years, dropped out for 2 (while taking a few classes at a community college) then went back to IU and earned my degree {and making the Deans List every semester.}
I was 24 and had to pay for college on my own, so knew it was time to take my studies seriously if I wanted to be a teacher. Some jobs (such as teaching) you NEED to have a degree to get a job, others you don't.

Receiving money when you give out sex to someone, yeppers, that's prostitution.
Giving another someone money, so they will have sex with you, yeppers again, that's prostitution, or....you just helped another commit prostitution.
I don't care how bad off a woman is, I don't think prostitution is the answer or the way out. I find it degrading and it's dangerous. I know a lot of people who have "fuck buddies"......but Jesus H, sex should be something that's an intimate part of your life, something you share with the one you love and care about.
Nu-uh.......I loathe this prostitution shit....they are whores, plain and simple.
And the very thought of just hopping into a bed with any ole gent, to romp with him, in order to receive money, makes me sick!
And giving oral...to someone you do not know???.....I'm off to hurl.

Eventually potential students will figure out that it is a bad investment as it currently is (likely not through a NPV calc, though) and admissions will go down. In general, they are still up, but there are significant decreases at some major schools.

Then, will acceptance criteria decrease even more? I suspect they will and the decline of higher education continues.

And, to my own question, yes, I think this is prostitution.

And, I don't think prostitution should be illegal.

But, it is certainly a job I would never consider and I would never encourage any girl to consider it, either.

There are too many cultural pressures to go to college for there to be a decline anytime soon. Maybe money will wise people up, but the hope that your children will do better than yourself will work its wonders.

Yep, its prostitution. I judge nobody who engages as long as the contract is mutually agreed upon and the one rendering services is not being forced to do so as a means to score the next pipe hit.

Yet my heart hurts for the young ladies as I am certain one day remorse and shame will set in and that is when the victim is born. Self-imposed? Certainly, but born of youth.

I'm glad you mentioned that. For quite some time our society has seen following generations being generally better off than the previous one.

That is not the case any longer, generally.

Sure it's prostitution, same as any other women selling sex for money. What's the difference between a college girl working her way through college so to speak, and a single or even married mom working to support her family? We got teenage runaways and grandmas hooking up, nothing new here.

My only take is that women should have other options besides this or marrying some guy for support. For many hookers, their choices are limited I think. I'm in the legalization crowd, if for no other reason than to make it safer.

You sound like a moralist nester, which is ok. But a lot of women are not looking for a steady mate to give them everything, and are more aggressive and adventurous than males. Sex doesn't have to meet a criteria of set rules, unless you are feeling guilty of having sex, for whatever reason. Or maybe thinking sex & love have some wired connection. They don't.

Some thoughts on this thread:

Is a member of Congress who accepts donations from someone who will benefit from his/her vote a prostitute or a whore?

In any enterprise there is risk and reward; disease, public exposure and violent customers would seem to be too risky for many, but the rewards for the few who avoid the dangers can be exceptional.

Sexual mores change overtime, but some things never change.

Why is prostitution illegal?

Is there a difference between a woman who engages in prostitution with many men and a woman who uses sex to obtain what she wants from one man?

Using someone as a toy is unappealing, some (generally men) are so unappealing prositutes really earn their dough.

Why not legalize it? Regulate it, tax it, make the pimps find another way to 'earn' a living (so we better decriminalize drugs). Fewer women abused, less disease transmitted and less crime.

Definition: A prostitute does it for the money. A whore gives it away.

What's the big deal?

Young women have been offering sex to rich old men for money, gifts, etc since there have been young women and rich old men.

Ain't nothing new here and that anyone is "surprised" about it is quite telling of our current collective intelligence.

I must be stupid as hell, as I cannot believe there are some people in the USA who want to legalize prostitution across the board.

If you, who want to legalize it in the USA... if you had a daughter, would you want her to be used up by someone to get their rocks off, even it's for money???!! (yes, or a son, I'm using a daughter as an example)

If so, what do you say to her if that is what she chooses?

"Yay, my daughter is a hooker!!!! I'm so proud that she's getting used by other men to get their rocks off! I love knowing that other men just use her and she gets paid too!"

"Yes, my daughter is doing great, she's one of the top hookers! She's got so many men wanting her for sex, she's at the top of her career!"

"Yes, honey, it doesn't matter to me if you sell your body for sex. I'm proud of you no matter what you do. It's your life honey, you can do as you please." <----- Oh yeah...I'd feel REALLY loved by my parents if they said that to me.

What am I missing here?

I'm not trying to be the morality police, I seriously don't get it. Who would want this for their children???
.

I doubt those who are advocates for legalizing it also want it for their children. In fact, I would hazard a guess that most who do advocate its legalization would NOT want it for their daughter.

The arrangement certainly sounds like prostitution, so its illegal in most places.

Instead, they should do the exact same exchange of money for sex but make it legal by rolling a camera and calling it porn.

For the life of me I can't figure out why it's legal to be paid to have sex only when a video camera is rolling.

I think pot, some other drugs and working in coalmines should be legal as well - but that doesn't mean I aspire for my kids to be druggies or work in a coalmine.

I wouldn't want it for my daughter

But I wouldn't want her to go to jail for it either

I still don't see the crime

I still don't get it. People don't want it for their own daughter, but who the hell cares about other people's daughters?

I gotta run, will have to check more replies after this.
