Is there ever serious discussion?

You've never experienced a TM thread, then.

Having an unpopular opinion or peaching to the heathens is one thing, being a massive disruptive prick is another, not going to name names but they are pretty easy to pick out from the crowd. They average about 20 words per post with at least one insult or unfounded accusation per post.

:lmao:

You're lost. Wasn't sure, now I am.

Not sure what you are talking about but you kind of run with the "Maobama the Kenyan antichrist" crowd so I really don't give a lot of credence to anything you say and am not really offended when you can't call off the attack dogs long enough puzzle out my usually clear understandable comments.

:lmao: So, my associations make you determine what my views are. That's pretty damn funny (considering my last fiance was a commie....Eastern Bloc, no less).

And, FYI: I don't run this board, and even if I did, I wouldn't "call off" anyone from anyone else, unless they were breaking a law.

Free speech, free association, and shit.

Don't know a thing about you except your tone in various threads I have participated in, don't really care about your real life away from the board, but I certainly find overuse of smilies to be rather irritating and useless to any discussion. :doubt::lol::clap2::confused::cool::eusa_eh::mad:

Here's your ass back. You can thank me later, fuckwit.

Every so often I get to have a decent policy discussion with someone but it is soon spoiled by the derailment crew here, there is a core group of 5 or 6 "libertarians" who spoil everything they touch, there is no solution since it is exactly the same for every single discussion board on the Internet. It's like the real world where a small group of shitheads spoil everything good by abusing it.

Oh yeah, and statist progressives like truthmatters, luddy neddite, and MarcATL add SOOO much to the conversation.

<once again puzzled why my neutral tone is so infuriating to some>

Well, I can see things are going along swimmingly in this thread.

Now where were we CrazedScotsman?

The way to solve that problem is to make use of the Ignore feature.

This is a relatively well-populated forum. The thing I like most about it is the moderators do not impose themselves like frustrated high-school hallway monitors. They leave the participants pretty much alone, which unfortunately does provide latitude for belligerent adolescents, adult morons, and social cyphers who compensate for their real-world timidity by behaving offensively behind the protective barrier of distance and anonymity. They are for the most part incapable of civil, intelligent discourse and they occur as a waste of time and space.

The way to deal with these annoyances is to simply add them to your Ignore list, which instantly and permanently removes them from your consciousness. Their offensive efforts are thus eliminated as if they had died. Their pseudonym appears as a single line and nothing more. The effect is analogous to stepping over dogshit on a sidewalk without breaking stride and your overall experience here is vastly improved because you are conscious of and you communicate only with sensible, civil, sociable mentalities.

How is it possible to have a serious discussion when a portion of the members here are mentally ill? A lot of the posters on this board are so ardently committed to their insane views that pretty much all you can do is expose them as idiots and move on. But I do like this board because this is the closest representation of Americana I've found.

LOL

I think the point was made.

Maybe it's just people can't comprehend on a message board because you can't see facial expressions, body language or hear the tone of another persons voice.

It just seems odd that people like to use insults to try and make a point instead of teaching each other what their views are.

You can tell when someone is steamed too by the way things are spelled. When you get "taht" instead of "that" and the like, you know they are pissed and typing too fast. Not thinking before they type and messing up.

Or maybe they are dyslexic?

I have about 6-8 on my ignore list and I mostly do ignore them but unfortunately not everyone does and the replies brings their slime to my attention anyway and some of their crap just cannot be allowed to pass unchallenged. I have been doing this rather pointless pastime for 12 years now and by now I have no expectation of changing anyone's mind, I do it to continually reexamine my own beliefs as any rational person should do everyday.

Personally I just enjoy figuring out what makes them tick. When you have some retard screaming about conspiracies and how the President is a socialist and uses "LOLiberal" every fucking post, it's interesting to figure out how they became so brain dead.

I think there is a problem with the Rep system where the doodoo heads can look like valued members....

then again, it is kinda like Junior High.

Is there another way to reward good posters? I only recognize a couple folks by name and half the time that is the ppl who use scantily clad ladies as avatars.

That's an easy one, authoritarian followers are hard-wired for fanaticism. Be it the slippery esoteric faith of libertarianism and it's reflexive excommunication of heretics or the blindness of militaristic nationalism with it's never ending procession of threats to counter, it all stems from the same instinctive need for devotion to something bigger, more pure and more powerful than themselves.

Certainly, they are as much inflexible blind followers of their ideology as any religious fanatic.
