In ancient time, marriage serves a very reasonable purpose.

Before we didn't have paternity tests. The only way to ensure that a child is a man's child is by law.

That means rich men would need the help of the state to punish adultery. That way, that man can know that his wive's child is his. This allows inheritance.

In fact, adultery, at least in ancient time, differs a lot from fornication. Fornication is victimless. Adultery is not. Another man having sex with a man's wife would de facto -ly make the husband inherit his whole wealth to another man's children.

In ancient time, before democracy, people vote with their food instead of with ballots. Hence, people would tend to flock to states with "reasonable" laws.

Naturally, most ancient culture allow fornication and prohibit adultery. That includes ancient Israelite culture. So the bible, while obviously prohibiting adultery, never prohibit sex between 2 consenting adults a problem explicitly.

This is a bit debatable. In most ancient cultured, a woman, is almost never free. He is always owned by either a husband or a father. So while there is no explicit prohibition against extra marital sex, there is often always a special case prohibition on special cases that ended up "covering" most cases.

For example, having sex with someone else' wife -> adultery. Having sex with someone else' daughter -> you got to pay bride price. That being said, there is nothing prohibiting a divorced jews women from having casual sex with anyone or for money.

Benefits of state infested marriage has been greatly reduced for most rich men obviously.

To inherit wealth to son, a rich man can simply uses paternity tests.

Currently, a man can be forced to pay child support for a child that is not his own if it is the wife's biological children. This seem to the opposite of ancient marriage laws. While ancient marriage laws are designed to ensure your money goes to your biological children, current marriage laws tend to do the opposite.

Another reason why people get married is because Christianity "may" prohibit extra marital sex. I said "may" because the issue is very complex as you can see here Extramarital sex - Wikipedia Most Christians, over 60%, do not think it's sin and would have sex outside marriage anyway.

Again, a total non issue for atheists.

Another reason is to get "legitimacy" from government.

A total non issue for libertarian.

Any reason why a rich smart libertarian atheists want to get married at all?

The reason ? To shut the girl up! That’s the reason.

Is there any reason for them to get married? Why yes there is. They all pretty much look like this so they should go for it when in the rare cases, they get a chance to.

The reason to marry should not vary. It should be two people committed to building something bigger than themselves and a partnership based on love.

Are there practical sides of marriage? Sure! There are an estimated 1,400 benefits (federal, state & local) bestowed on married couples.

As for the inheritance things, you can leave your wealth to whomever you choose.
