Is the right wing's reputation for being anti science and anti education justified?

Considering what right wingers ON THIS VERY BOARD say about science, scientists and education, well, you know. Just admit the truth. Just once.
Just look at any of the threads about space exploration.

Most conservatives support it. Most liberals oppose it.

You yourself said going back to the moon wasn't at all scientific.

You're a retard.

I think part of the problem is that so much of the mentality on the Right in politics is 100% reactionary. It's allowed the Left to define them even on issues where they have a stronger stance than the Left.

Take for example Environmentalism. Early on in that movement some of the most hardcore Environmentalists were on the Right (there's a reason the EPA started under Nixon). The reason why is pretty clear: If you're a hunter you a vested interest in preserving woodland populations. If you're a homeowner, you want to keep your home values high and clean water and air help with that, etc. If you're a Christian, the Earth is God's creation and you have a vested interest in the care of that creation. If you're a farmer or Rancher you have a vested interest in clean water. It's the reason the fight against the Keystone Pipeline really got going in a pretty Red state at the request of a Republican Governor.

However, once the Left latched on to environmental issues the immediate reaction by many on the Right was to denounce Environmentalism as some sort of new age cult, anti-American, and anti-business, which is pretty much the go to play for almost every issue the Left latches on to.

This reactionary stance really hurts when folks on the Right jump on the polar opposite view of the Left on an issue just because if a Lefty thinks it, it must be wrong? Right?

For example: There's VERY clear evidence the Environment is changing. Earth is indeed warming. However, the evidence that human activity is behind it is something that deserves legitimate scrutiny. The idea that global warming may ultimately be a bad thing deserves some debate too.

However, many MANY folks on this board will immediately denounce and scream at the top of their lungs "EARTH IS NOT HEATING UP!". That doesn't help, as thanks to the evidence you look stupid. And once you stake out the wrong position scientifically, it means you basically concede the rest of the argument to the Left.

You see this too with Evolution. The Evolutionary mechanism is pretty well documented scientifically. If you want to debate the evolutionary chain, fine, do so. That has a few gaps that do require explanation. But the mechanism? If you deny that there is adaptation via natural selection you're intellectually equivalent to a flat Earther. And once you take that position, the rest of your legitimate gripes look insane.

In the long run, a great many folks on the Right need to stake out a "This is what we think" on this issue so they don't let the Left define the stances of the Right.

Who on this board is saying that the Earth isn't warming? Links, please.

And we have stated quite clearly time and again what we think on the issues. The left refuses to listen and insists we believe what the stereotypes they use instead of thinking say.

Of course it is justified. Republicans two major education policy goal is to make it so poor kids can't get pre-schooling or funds to go to college.
Also republicans oppose scientific research and funding and refuse to accept half a dozen scientific facts

Mal is the very first one I thought of who is actively trying to debunk any idea that Earth is warming:

Not to be sardeanic (pun intended,) but rdean keeps starting theme threads. The only trouble is, the theme never changes. It's the samo-samo saga:

we good you bad

The reason scientists tap Demmies is simple: easy money, no achievement rush.

Thing is, becs, that stat about scientists.... dweebie uses it out of context. That's already been proved more than once.... I think he thinks we'll all forget how he got his ass kicked with that that chart last time. Or maybe he has conveniently forgotten it. Either way, it's out of context... and bullshit.

Just because some right wing teanut, such as yourself, says something, doesn't make it "proof".

Considering what right wingers ON THIS VERY BOARD say about science, scientists and education, well, you know. Just admit the truth. Just once.

And just because YOU say something doesn't make it right. Science is not always exact. New research is done every day and scientists change their minds every day. You can talk to two scientists and get two different opinions. But you liberals can't seem to think for yourselves. if a scientist told you the sky was really purple with pea-green polka dots, you'd believe it.

As far as education, I have stated on this board more than once that I believe graduation from high school should be mandatory. You can't put much stock in education with making excuses for people without it and getting government handouts. The public school system is far below that of other developed countries, especially Japan. The teachers' union runs everything and the teachers have absolutely no control over their classrooms. The troublemakers dominate most of the attention. Then there are the teachers busy trying to seduce the students. In my daughter's K through 12 schooling her 6th grade teacher was the only one who could really teach. That teacher had spent time teaching in Japan and knew first hand of the excellent education system over there. And they are not even socialist, imagine that! Her other teachers zeroed on either the jocks or the troublemakers and didn't have a clue how to teach anybody who didn't have a photographic memory.

I don't know where you get your information about conservatives not caring about education or science, but as my grandmother would say: "you're all wet!" That's nowadays language for "you don't what the hell you're talking about!" (She was a school teacher in the early 1900s, taught 8 grades in one classroom. She had control over HER classroom, believe me! That was when kids were taught science, history and math and not how to put condoms on bananas or the joys of sex, gay or straight).

Our top story tonight:

The number of repeatable labortaory experiments showong how a .01% change in athmosphere by adding a wisp of CO2 does ANY of the things its supposed to is still zero.

No need -- point made. However, you will find nobody claiming the climate is static.

We recognize temps go up and down. You seem to recognize only that temps go up.

If you have to lie to make your point, your point isn't worth making.

He's not really LYING, just parrotting what he's either read in Huffington Post or heard Rachel Maddow or one of her cohorts spout. We want everyone to be self-sufficient, finish high school, make something of themselves. Why in the HELL would we not want poor kids to have preschooling or get funds for college? There is probably the dumbest, stupidest, most ignorant thing I've read on here yet. There are millions of dollars of money earmarked for college loans and scholarships as yet unclaimed. Get the poor kids to school so that they can not be poor anymore.

He's lying because this has been explained to him before.

Yet he'd rather bitterly cling to the lies instead of embracing the truth.

Everything you say about conservatives and education is true. The left is engaged in its usual emotionalism and fear-mongering.

No, they do. Temps are currently trending up but they won't forever. There is a cycle and it's been a while since the Little Ice Age screwed up things in Europe.

I'm not actually a believer in the man made warming theory. I do support a lot of fuel efficiency initiatives due to military and strategic concerns. And just because temperatures are increasing doesn't mean they always will. There are some natural mechanisms that will come in to play if things get too hot.

Or a magical bearded spirit being shimmered the first people into being from dirt? Like that?

Someone spent a long time writing nonsensical mish mash, thinking they are making a LOT of sense.

if a scientist told you the sky was really purple with pea-green polka dots, you'd believe it.

How right wingers think making up this nonsense helps their argument is beyond me.
