Soldier shouts alleged Fort Hood killer name in court

In a 5 minute court appearance in Waco, Texas today poker faced Naser Jason Abdo was charged with illegal possession of a firearm. Undoubtedly there’ll be more charges as the case unfolds. He's being held without bail. There were 8 U.S. Marshalls in the courtroom watching over the proceedings. Abdos next court date is August 4, 2011.

According to cable news, while Abdo was in the courtroom and when Judge Manske came in, the clerk called all rise. Abdo refused to rise when the judge came in a deputy bent down and told Abdo to rise. Abdo refused to rise again so, the deputies on both sides of him grab an arm and force Abdo to his feet. I hope they didn’t do it gently.

Abdo told the police “he intended to conduct an attack against Killeen and Fort Hood.” He also admitted that there were explosives in his backpack at his motel room.”

“His backpack was searched and the officers found a handgun, ammunition, items that can be used to construct a "destructive device," and an article entitled, "Make a bomb in the kitchen of your Mom."

Abdo "admitted that he planned to assemble two bombs in the hotel room using gun powder and shrapnel packed into pressure cookers to detonate inside an unspecified restaurant frequented by soldiers from Fort Hood."

When Naser Abdo was being taken out of the court room he gave a shout out to Nidal Hasan the Fort Hood shooter who killed 13 people in 2009. Then he screamed out the name of an Iraqi girl, 14 who had been raped by American soldiers. Those soldiers have since been charged and sentenced for that crime which happened in 2006.

The Judge asked Abdo if he had any impairment that would limit his ability to understand the court proceedings and Adbo answered “No.”

SGT Payton went through training with pfc. Nasar Abdo this is his recollection.

Almost verbatim:

SGT. Michael Payton U.S. Army said, Abdo provoked conflict with others and he was obsessive in trying to convert others to Islam. He would do so in a way that would provoke conflict. He used anti-Semitic rhetoric and harassed a Jewish soldier in the platoon. He (Abdo) said he would never fight against anyone with Islamic faith. SGT Payton questioned his motive very early on because he didn’t have sentiments or American ideals. He wasn’t a model soldier by any means. He was into deception.

SGT Payton went on to say, we’re an all-volunteer, it’s a volunteer army and we signed an oath to serve the people of the United States to up held the constitution and we do that voluntarily and so he knew that going in and were engaged in war around the world certainly not against Islam but against radical Islamist who happen to be Muslim. And he said very early on he would never fight against Muslims and there are many different ethnic groups and religions in the military. He could have done any number of things but to sign up for infantry which is the tip of the spear, we’re the ones kicking in the door and doing the nasty business no one really likes to it but someone has to do it.

He was sentenced to five years in prison and last year was deported to Jordan.
