Depends on stance Sallow....

If one subscribes to a collectivist society , taxation is an essential catalyst to civility

If one sunscribes to a libertarian society, taxation is a mandatory obligation only the uncivil misfits would need take advantage of

All governments are collectivist..with the possible exception of anarchy. And that's not really government. It's the absence of government.

Simple yes or no.

I voted no, but only because your wording left me unable to vote yes.

First, there is the dictionary definition of socialism that doesn't even require 'taxation' since everything is already owned by the government.

But even if I ignore that, it's still not socialism until the taxes are used to promote the general welfare. For example, taxation occurs under feudalism too.

So taxes used to promote a military isn't socialism?

That qualifies as promoting the general welfare. Few things undermine the 'general welfare' quite like an invading army.

It's not fully socialism. It's more of a general form a tyranny.

I'm taxed by the Fed to pay for things I find utterly useless and sometimes immoral. My only option to avoid this is to leave the country. Iv'e been around, I haven't seen a better place.

However if I'm taxed at the state level, I actually can just pack up and leave the state. It may suck, but I can either work to get what I want or go somewhere where what I want is in place.

Initially Fed taxation was illegal, once that changed, everything started to move into the hands of the government.

Militias are a tried and tested failure.

guys with guns are no match for trained soldiers.

Taxes are a price we pay for living in a civilized society.

If living in a civilized society = socialism, then I guess taxes are socialistic.

So, two here think it's not socialism?

How would you explain that?

Seriously.
Because taxation being socialistic would have to benefit those actually paying the taxes. Not Haiti, Zaire, Iran, Iraq.......that list goes on and on and on........ the banks and damn sure not IsNtReal.
SO.
Take every nickel you idiots pay in and keep it all at home. EVERY NICKEL and use it only within the US.No more corporate subsidies, no more bailouts. Your money used to benefit YOU.
Socialism.
Ya know. Schools, libraries, free internet, new infrastructure, health care, small business loans. All of the things murkins hate.

Well at least when it comes to the military?

Not exactly.

Socialism sorta works on the theory that many hands make light work.
