Is Romney a liar or just stupid?

His claims about Obama doing away with a work requirement turned out to be wrong. Even the Republican that crafted the legislation back in the nineties came out and stated that Obama's suggestion re: welfare would help more people get back to work.

Is Mitten a liar or is he just stupid?

The ad is the most public attack on a change the administration made last month to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), which is what welfare became after 1996.

The controversy is centered on the work requirements at the heart of TANF's cash assistance program.

The law currently lists the work activities that meet the requirement, including participating in subsidized or unsubsidized employment, undergoing on-the-job-training, attending a high school or GED program and searching for a job. It also requires the states to track the hours recipients spend in these activities -- 50% of recipients are required to participate, though states can have that target reduced if they lower their caseloads.

But last month, the Department of Health and Human Services added an option that allows for more flexibility for states that want to test alternate ways of putting families on the path back to employment.

Recipients would still have to get jobs or prepare for work, but states can now apply for waivers of the original requirements.

The purpose is to better help people get back to gainful employment and off government assistance. The administration said it met with state officials, who said that more flexibility could put more recipients to work.

"We also heard concerns that some TANF rules stifle innovation and focus attention on paperwork rather than helping parents find jobs," wrote George Sheldon, acting assistant secretary for the department's Administration for Children and Families.

Romney is not a liar. He has a valid argument. Both sides bring out interesting valid points. Who is supposed to be writing and passing the Laws, the President or Congress

Yeah, he's a liar. That's been proven countless times.

News flash! He might do something smart and pick Paul Ryan.

Robmoney was a corporate raider who would say ANYTHING to get elected

What a Pathetically Simply Minded lemming you are. Private Equity Firms like Bain can not Do Cooperate Raiding you idiot. the Companies they Invest in are not even Publicly traded. Cooperate Raiding describes Hostile Take overs of Publicly traded Companies. you simpleton.

No, it's more like "busting out", like Paulie in Goodfellas. With GTS, Bain put some money into the business, got the company to put out some preferred stock (with very high rates of interest), got their money back, plus loanshark rate juice, and let the company go to hell. Anyone who thinks that Bain was anything more than the corporate vultures that Newt and Santorum described them, has their head in the sand.

He didn't resign until 2001. He was still listed as their CEO in their corporate and SEC submissions, along with his signature, after 1999.
I would like to also state that it doesn't matter how active he was. If he is CEO... Then he is CEO. He might have delegated his job, but it's still his job.

So the Fact he had no say in the Decisions made means nothing eh, it's still his fault.

Thanks for the info. :cuckoo:

Wrong moron. When you sign an SEC certification, you either were in control of the company, or Mitt lied to the SEC as being responsible.

Considering that Romney requested that these sort of waivers be included in the reauthorization in 2005, in a letter to Bill Frist, and nothing that Obama is considering in the 5 waivers HHS has received (including 2 from Republican Governors) does away with the goal of getting people off welfare and into work, I'd suggest he's both.

It is really hard to believe he is that stupid. It is also hard to contest.

Both. He scares me more than Obama because he will decimate the middle class with his ideas.

When I read the title of this thread, and then say who write it, my first thought was you were the one that is lying. Amazing how I was right.

I'm certain Obama/Democrats and their policies are well on the road to accomplishing that, you just refuse to see and blame the other side.

Democrats are helpful until it's their own money...

Again, a truly great thread for convincing us all of the absolute need for MORE CHOICES!

Not Democrat!
Not Republican!

Vote for someone else!
Write in someone else!
Write in your grandmother (in fact, she would at least probably have a heart and be caring)!
